Ag Processing Inc. (AGP) began commercial operations at its David City, Nebraska, soybean-processing facility in 2025, according to the company’s July 2026 update. The plant’s original schedule called for commercial operations by the end of August 2025; that was a target, not its current status. AGP described the project as a $700 million investment and held its grand opening on July 17, 2025. AGP’s grand-opening announcement and its July 2026 shipment update provide the timeline.
What the David City facility does
The plant crushes soybeans into soybean meal and oil. AGP says the meal and oil are sold to domestic and international customers, with earnings returned to its farmer-cooperative owners. Nebraska Soybean Board coverage describes the meal as serving local livestock operations and the oil as going to food and biofuel processing. The Board’s 2025 overview places the facility within broader growth in Nebraska soybean processing and renewable-fuel demand; that context does not establish that any single market or policy caused AGP’s investment.
AGP Board Chairman Dean Thernes described the cooperative’s purpose: “As a cooperative, AGP’s mission is to add value to our members’ soybeans by processing the beans into meal and oil, selling those products in the open market, and returning the earnings to our local owners.”
Capacity is not the same as actual production
AGP’s 2025 announcement gives the facility an annual design capacity of more than 50 million bushels of soybeans and nearly 700 million pounds of degummed soybean oil. The Nebraska Soybean Board separately reported daily capacities of 150,000 bushels of soybeans and 1.8 million pounds of crude soybean oil degummed per day. These are capacity figures, not evidence of how much the plant has actually processed or produced.

The Board also reported that Nebraska had roughly 234 million bushels of soybean-crushing capacity in 2025, compared with typical production of 300 million bushels. The comparison is statewide industry context, not a measure of AGP’s utilization or the amount of soybeans available to this particular facility.
Rail access and the 2026 shipment milestone
In 2025, AGP described nearly 13.6 miles of rail at the site, connections to two Class I railroads, and a design capability to load a 110-car unit train every three to four days. Those were company-reported infrastructure and logistics specifications, not a confirmed recurring loading schedule.

In July 2026, AGP reported that the facility had made its first U.S. unit-train shipment of soybean oil and described the site as having more than 13 miles of rail. The shipment is a specific milestone; it does not establish ongoing shipment frequency.
Jobs and local economic impact
Employment figures reported around the opening were projections, not verified current staffing. AGP said the facility was expected to support more than 80 full-time jobs. Nebraska Public Power District reported an expectation of 60 to 80 jobs. The sources do not establish the plant’s current headcount.

David City Mayor Jessica Miller told NPPD the project was helping local businesses and sales-tax revenue: “It boosts our business and our local business. It’s helped bring up revenue sales tax, which is quite exciting for all of us.” That is the mayor’s assessment; the available reporting does not quantify the project’s post-opening economic impact.

When it announced the project in January 2022, AGP cited reliable soybean supply, skilled labor, local infrastructure and transportation access as reasons for selecting David City. Board Chairman Lowell Wilson said the cooperative saw East Central Nebraska as strategically located to serve its members and farmer-owners. The facility’s opening and later shipment milestone show progress from announcement to operation, but do not by themselves measure its financial returns to farmers or the community.
