Agoro Carbon Alliance said it paid more than $9 million to U.S. farmers and ranchers during its first year. The company announced the milestone on June 8, 2022; it is a historical, company-reported figure, not a new payment announcement.
How much did Agoro Carbon Alliance pay farmers in its first year?
In its June 8, 2022 announcement, Agoro Carbon Alliance reported distributing more than $9 million to U.S. farmers and ranchers during the company’s first year. The figure describes payments in that first-year period; the release does not provide a per-farm average or a breakdown by producer, state, or payment type.
Agoro’s announcement is the primary source for the amount. Successful Farming also reported the milestone on June 8, 2022, but said its item was primarily based on supplied material reviewed and edited by its staff. That coverage is not an independent audit of the payments.
What did Agoro Carbon say its contracts involved?
Agoro described its contract opportunities as being based on improved management practices intended to sequester carbon and deliver sustained agricultural improvements. The announcement said contracts were not packaged or paired with other product offerings and mentioned options for early payments.

The release does not state payment rates, complete contract terms, eligibility thresholds, contract duration, or how payments were calculated. It also does not establish that any particular farm qualified, that carbon credits were issued, or that participation was profitable.
What support did Agoro say it provided to farmers?
Agoro said its support included education and help with the preparation process, including collecting historical farm data, facilitating soil sampling, and establishing baselines. The company also described ongoing, field-level agronomic advice. Agoro Carbon Grower Success Manager Ryan Winter said: “Throughout the life of the contract, we are there to provide agronomic advice, answer questions about management practices or share input on improving soil health and carbon storage on a field-by-field level.”

What has Agoro reported since the first-year announcement?
Agoro’s current News & Media index lists a later company-reported total of more than $15 million paid to producers since the company started. The index information available does not establish when that milestone was reached, so it should not be treated as a dated update to the June 2022 first-year figure.
In the 2022 announcement, interim CEO Elliot Formal said: “We are extremely proud of the company’s success in the first year,” He also described the company’s aim as follows: “At Agoro Carbon, we are focused on delivering a climate-positive change and financial returns to our farmer and rancher partners.” Those statements express the company’s view; the announcement alone does not independently establish environmental outcomes or producer returns.
