You can find general-use mini buckets at Lowe’s, Menards, and Ace Hardware, though the products, included lids, and current availability differ. Lowe’s currently lists a 0.4-quart food-grade polypropylene bucket with a lid; prices and stock at all retailers can change, so check your local listing before making a trip. Home Depot’s cited mini pail is a holiday ornament, not a comparable utility bucket.
Where to find mini buckets
The three hardware-store options below were identified in SlashGear’s December 10, 2025 guide. Its prices are dated reports, not current quotes. Lowe’s has a retailer listing that provides a more recent product and price snapshot, accessed October 8, 2026.

The 2025 guide also mentioned a $0.98 Home Depot mini pail, but described it as a holiday ornament rather than a general-use bucket. Its linked Home Depot Canada product page now returns a product-not-found message, so it is not a dependable alternative for utility use.
How to compare the options
- Capacity and dimensions: Lowe’s lists 0.4 quart; Menards’ reported capacity is 400 mL. Those figures describe volume, not the buckets’ outside dimensions. Compare measurements on the live product pages if size matters for a shelf, drawer, or project.
- Lid: Lowe’s listing says a lid is included. SlashGear reported that Menards sells its lid separately. For Ace, lid inclusion was not stated in the guide.
- Material and food-use claims: Lowe’s identifies its product as food-grade polypropylene. Do not assume that claim applies to the Menards or Ace buckets, or to a decorative ornament.
- Total cost and stock: Treat the 2025 figures as historical reports. Before purchasing, check the current item price, any separate lid cost, and whether your location offers pickup, delivery, or shipping.
What can you use a mini bucket for?
Retailer and editorial descriptions suggest using these little containers to corral small hardware or desk supplies, hold small amounts of touch-up paint, package treats, or make a gift presentation more playful. These are suggested uses, not results from product testing. For food, rely only on the exact product’s stated food-safe status and follow its labeling; Lowe’s claim is specific to its listed bucket.

Lowe’s explained the food-safe design choice in an Instagram post, as quoted by HGTV’s Amy Reiter: “We thought it was better to have the new mini buckets be food safe since it turned out so many people wanted to use them that way,” Lowe’s said on Instagram. That statement explains the company’s rationale for its version; it does not establish that mini buckets generally are food safe.

If you want a set or a different miniature style, marketplaces have broader alternatives. Walmart lists a TAROFIIH children’s six-piece mini bucket set, while Etsy has a mini-bucket marketplace category. Those listings are alternatives, not evidence that either marketplace carries the exact Lowe’s, Menards, or Ace products.
