Adobe had $24.55 billion of unused stock-repurchase authorization as of August 28, 2026. Compared with the roughly $93 billion market capitalization reported in early October, that balance equals about 26%—roughly one quarter—of Adobe’s market value. It is authorized capacity, not a promise to spend the money or buy a quarter of the company.
What Adobe’s $24.55 billion balance means
Adobe’s September 2026 Form 10-Q reported that $24.55 billion remained under the stock-repurchase authority approved in April 2026 as of August 28. The board had authorized repurchases of up to $25 billion, and the program runs through April 30, 2030. The balance is the unused portion of that authorization at the filing’s reporting date, not cash set aside for a scheduled payout. Adobe’s Form 10-Q and April 21, 2026 Form 8-K describe the balance and program.
Why it is about a quarter of Adobe’s market value
The comparison uses figures from different dates. The Motley Fool described Adobe’s market value as about $93 billion on October 4, 2026; StockAnalysis reported market capitalization of $92.51 billion on October 2. Dividing the $24.55 billion authorization balance reported as of August 28 by roughly $93 billion gives about 26%. That is a point-in-time comparison of dollars, not a fixed ratio: market capitalization changes as Adobe’s share price moves. The Motley Fool’s October 4 comparison and StockAnalysis’ market-cap data provide the October figures.
It also does not mean Adobe intends to acquire 26% of its shares. The number of shares a fixed dollar amount could buy depends on the price at which purchases occur, and the company has not committed to spending the full authorization.

Authorization is not a commitment to buy
Adobe said in its April 21 Form 8-K: “Adobe has no obligation to repurchase any amount of its common stock under our new stock repurchase program.” The company retains discretion over whether, when, and how much to repurchase. Its filing says decisions may depend on market conditions, legal requirements, capital needs, and alternative uses of capital. The authorization establishes permission to buy shares up to the approved limit during the program’s term; it does not require Adobe to use that capacity.
What Adobe has actually repurchased
In the nine months ended August 28, 2026, Adobe reported $6.82 billion in open-market repurchases and 26.1 million shares delivered. Those are historical results, distinct from the $24.55 billion still authorized at the end of that period. The past spending pace offers context but does not predict future purchases.

The same Form 10-Q says Adobe’s separate March 2024 repurchase authority became fully utilized during those nine months. It is not part of the remaining April 2026 balance.

Adobe says its program is “designed to return value to our stockholders, minimize dilution from stock issuances and reduce share count over time.” Those are the company’s stated purposes, not a guarantee that the full authorization will be used or that repurchases will raise the share price or per-share value. The size of the authorization alone does not establish the eventual financial effect.
