Acclaim cofounder Gregory Fischbach unveiled Accelerate Games in November 2020 with cofounders Brett Gow and John Chao. The publisher said it would help independent developers with publishing, distribution and marketing; its first announced game was Signal Studios’ Toy Soldiers HD.
Who founded Accelerate Games?
GamesBeat reported on November 2, 2020, that Fischbach, Gow and Chao had launched the publisher. Fischbach cofounded Acclaim Entertainment in 1987 and was its CEO until 2003, according to GamesBeat’s launch report.
Fischbach described building a team as central to the venture: “Everybody has a role. Everybody’s voice is important. That’s what I’ve learned from everything I have done.”
What did the publisher plan to offer developers?
Accelerate Games presented itself as a service partner for independent developers, offering global publishing, distribution and marketing support so developers could concentrate on creative work. Fischbach said the company was open to games of any type and hoped to publish “maybe a half-dozen to a dozen games a year.” That was a goal stated at launch, not a verified record of releases.

Why was Toy Soldiers HD the first announced game?
The publisher’s first announced title was Toy Soldiers HD, a remake of Signal Studios’ Toy Soldiers. Set in a World War I toy-soldier diorama, the original combines action and strategy. GamesBeat reported that it debuted on Xbox Live Arcade in 2010 and on Windows in 2012.
Fischbach said the original was appealing partly because it “continued to sell, and Microsoft continued to support it for the next 10 years,” according to GamesBeat. In press-release remarks reproduced by Gematsu, he described its mix of historical accuracy, action, strategy and humor. The same remarks attributed “millions of units worldwide” to the game. That is an approximate statement, with no precise total or measurement date supplied; it should not be read as an audited sales figure.

What platforms and release timing were announced?
The November 2020 announcement named PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC as planned platforms. That announcement is not evidence of current availability across those platforms or of a physical retail edition.
