Accenture’s October 1, 2026 results and 3%–6% FY27 revenue-growth outlook in local currency offered a positive demand signal for technology stocks. But Indian IT companies had not yet reported their July–September FY27 results as of October 7, so the announcement is a global read-through—not proof that Indian IT has recovered.
What Accenture reported and forecast
Accenture reported FY26 revenue of $74.2 billion, up 5% in local currency, in its October 1, 2026 results summary. Adjusted operating margin was 15.8%, 20 basis points higher than adjusted FY25, and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) were $13.97, up 8%. The company returned $11.5 billion to shareholders, 38% more than a year earlier.
For FY27, Accenture’s October 1 earnings presentation gives the following outlook. Its adjusted margin and adjusted EPS measures exclude business optimization costs.
| FY27 measure | Accenture outlook |
|---|---|
| Revenue growth | 3%–6% in local currency |
| Adjusted operating margin | 15.9%–16.1% |
| Adjusted EPS | $14.39–$14.81 |
| Free cash flow | $11.0–$11.8 billion |
The combination of FY26 growth and a positive FY27 revenue range can support investor confidence that large-enterprise technology demand has not disappeared. It does not show how much Indian providers will grow: Accenture and Indian IT firms differ in business mix, client exposure and the timing with which contracts become revenue.

What pre-results expectations said—and what they did not
Estimates published before results were forecasts, not reported growth or a confirmed sector consensus. Business Standard’s October 4 report said research advisory UnearthInsight expected 0.5%–1% sequential growth for the top five Indian IT companies. Its founder and CEO, Gaurav Vasu, argued that Q2 was unlikely to improve on Q1 because client budgets and spending had not revived, discretionary spending remained constrained amid geopolitical tensions, and decision cycles were long.
The same report attributed a somewhat stronger quarter than Q1 to Gartner’s view that previously awarded contracts were moving into revenue-generating phases. Gartner Senior Principal Analyst Biswajit Maity nevertheless expected growth among leading IT services providers to remain modest. The report also described analyst concerns about cautious discretionary spending and a continued focus on productivity outcomes.
Brokerage ranges were wider than a single sector-wide number. Fortune India’s October 6 pre-results synthesis said HDFC Securities expected large-cap sequential constant-currency growth ranging from -0.4% to +2.0%, and mid-tier growth from +0.6% to +6.3%, with some mid-tier growth partly aided by acquisitions. These are that brokerage’s expectations, not company results or guidance.

Company guidance is a separate reference point
Fortune India relayed company growth-guidance ranges of 2%–3.5% for Infosys and 1.5%–3.5% for HCLTech. Those ranges are company guidance, not the brokerage forecasts above; analysts’ expectations could differ from them. Comparing actual results with each company’s own guidance is more meaningful than treating either forecast set as a settled outcome.
What to watch in the Indian results
Accenture’s outlook becomes a more useful read-through only when Indian companies disclose their own demand, conversion and margin trends. Compare companies on a like-for-like basis where possible, since they may define or report metrics differently.
- Sequential constant-currency revenue growth: This helps separate underlying quarter-to-quarter movement from currency changes. Compare the reported figure with the company’s guidance and the relevant analyst estimate, rather than comparing unlike measures.
- Organic growth versus acquisitions: Acquisition-led expansion can lift reported growth without showing the same level of demand in the existing business.
- Bookings and conversion: Deal wins matter, but investors also need to know whether awarded work is moving into revenue and how long conversion takes.
- Demand by client and sector: Management commentary on discretionary spending, budgets and decision timelines can show whether caution is easing or remains concentrated in particular areas.
- Margins and their drivers: The pre-results discussion highlighted automation and utilization gains as potential offsets to AI investment, wage inflation in sought-after skills and client pricing concessions. The net effect—not any one factor alone—will matter.
- AI economics: Look for what management says about AI-related revenue and productivity, and whether efficiency gains translate into margins or are passed to clients through pricing.
- Forward guidance: Updated company ranges and explanations of assumptions will show whether management sees a change in demand, conversion or profitability.
Why the sentiment signal is not a recovery call
Accenture’s results can inform views on global enterprise technology spending, but they cannot establish that Indian IT’s September quarter improved. Before the Indian reports, the available commentary still pointed to modest expected growth, cautious discretionary budgets, long decision cycles and a possible lag between contract awards and revenue. Differences in company exposure add another reason not to treat one multinational’s outlook as a proxy for the whole Indian sector.
Fortune India reported that Accenture’s results and outlook helped technology-company ADRs post strong gains, but the available coverage does not establish a verified percentage move for an Indian IT index. A precise return should be checked against dated exchange data rather than inferred from that description.
