Those are Carroll’s reported figures, not totals independently audited by a third party. He described himself as “absolutely addicted” to GYG, using the word colloquially rather than as a clinical diagnosis.
How much did Tyler Carroll say he spent at GYG?
PerthNow reported on 3 July 2025 that Carroll had disclosed spending about A$6,500 at GYG across 395 visits or transactions in the prior financial year. He discussed how he worked out the figures in an interview with 1029 Hot Tomato on 8 July 2025. Neither report presents an independent audit of his bank records, so the numbers should be understood as Carroll’s account.

The Hot Tomato interview transcript described the spend as about A$125 a week and said Carroll was outside Australia for two months during that financial year. The transcript is automatically generated, and its publisher says its accuracy is not guaranteed. The weekly figure is therefore best treated as an attributed approximation, not a verified average.
How did he count the visits and spending?
In the radio interview, Carroll said he exported his Commonwealth Bank transactions to Excel and filtered for GYG merchant names. He said transactions could appear under different names, a detail that makes the result dependent on how he identified and counted those entries. The reports do not provide the spreadsheet or a transaction-by-transaction reconciliation.

For that reason, 395 is best described as Carroll’s reported number of visits or transactions. The available accounts do not establish that every transaction equalled one meal, or that each entry represented a separate visit.
What did Carroll usually order?
PerthNow reported examples of Carroll’s usual orders: a bacon or chorizo burrito breakfast meal with an iced latte, and chicken burrito bowls with no beans and extra chicken for lunch or dinner. These examples describe some of his orders; they are not a complete meal log. The figures alone do not establish exactly what he ate, how much he consumed, or the nutritional content of his meals.
GYG’s January 2024 nutrition and allergen guide provides menu information for that date, but it does not verify Carroll’s purchases or intake. It should not be treated as a current nutrition reference without checking for a newer guide: GYG nutrition and allergen guide (January 2024).

Did he use GYG’s loyalty program?
PerthNow said Carroll chose not to use GYG’s loyalty program because he wanted to pay full price. The report does not calculate what he might have saved, so it cannot support a precise estimate of missed rewards or discounts.

Why is he described as a Gold Coast man?
The location descriptions in the coverage are inconsistent. The PerthNow headline calls Carroll a Gold Coast man, but its article body also describes him as a Brisbane local and a Queensland local. The 1029 Hot Tomato interview calls him a Gold Coaster. It is more accurate to note the discrepancy than to present one description as settled by all sources.
Carroll’s GYG story appeared in PerthNow on 3 July 2025, followed by the radio interview on 8 July. A first-person retrospective published by Now To Love on 19 June 2026 recalls his first GYG visit in Yatala in February 2020 and says he posted his spending spreadsheet in July 2025. Those details are Carroll’s recollections, not independent confirmation of the spending totals.

What does “addicted” mean in this story?
PerthNow quoted Carroll saying, “I’m absolutely addicted to GYG — its almost become a personality trait.” That is his own colloquial description. The reporting does not establish a clinical diagnosis, and the spending account alone should not be used to infer one.
GYG founder and co-CEO Steven Marks also praised the reported loyalty, telling PerthNow: “Meeting a superfan like Tyler is what it’s all about, it’s incredible when someone like Tyler eats GYG so often, but we’re not surprised!”
