Black Friday 2024 was Friday, November 29. It is in the past; “this Friday or next?” depends on when the question was asked, so the exact date is the clearest answer. Amazon describes Black Friday as the Friday after Thanksgiving and lists November 29 for 2024; Target also identified November 29 as Black Friday.
Why did some Black Friday deals start earlier?
The date of Black Friday and a retailer’s promotional schedule are not the same. Retailers began advertising deals before November 29, 2024, but those earlier start dates did not change the calendar date.
- Amazon scheduled Black Friday Week deals from November 21 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time through November 29 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time.
- Walmart announced a first event starting online November 11, a second starting online November 25 and in stores November 29, and a Cyber Monday event beginning online December 1.
- Target said its Black Friday week deals ran November 24–30. Its release said most stores would open at 6 a.m. local time on Friday, November 29.
These were historical U.S. schedules for 2024, not current offers. Store hours and in-store promotion timing can vary by retailer and location.
