What the April 2024 forecast said
In a report published on 2 April 2024, PerthNow said FuelWatch forecast an increase of more than 32 cents per litre in Perth’s average unleaded petrol price, taking it to 212.5 cents per litre from 6am the next day. PerthNow also reported that 30 stations were below 179 cpl. Its examples show why a citywide average or headline forecast could not tell an individual driver what a nearby station charged. The station-level prices and count were reported for that period only. PerthNow’s 16 April 2024 follow-up covered a later warning in the same month.

What the reported tank saving meant
PerthNow attributed to a Consumer Protection spokesperson the estimate that finding the lowest nearby prices could save a motorist $35 on a 60-litre tank. That was a potential saving reported in 2024, not a guarantee, an independently established current statistic, or a promise that the same saving is available today.
How to check Perth prices now
For a refuelling decision today, use FuelWatch, as described by WA Consumer Protection, rather than relying on a 2024 article. The WA Government says FuelWatch has a mobile-compatible interactive map and shows today’s and tomorrow’s prices after 2.30pm each day.

- Buy only the fuel you need. WA Government guidance advises motorists not to stockpile.
