The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 is a 14-inch business laptop platform with several hardware configurations, not one fixed set of specs. Lenovo’s November 2016 specifications list sixth-generation Intel processors, two DDR3L memory sockets supporting up to 32 GB, and multiple storage options. If you are buying a used T460 or upgrading one, identify its machine type and installed parts before choosing a screen, memory module, SSD, battery, or adapter.
What is the ThinkPad T460?
The T460 is a 14-inch ThinkPad platform specified by Lenovo in November 2016. Its listed dimensions are 339 × 232.5 × 21 mm. The processor, display, graphics, wireless hardware, memory population, storage interface, battery set, and bundled operating system can vary by configuration, so the model name alone does not establish what a particular used machine contains. Processor and graphics options
Lenovo lists Intel Core i3-6100U, Core i5-6200U, Core i5-6300U, Core i7-6500U, and Core i7-6600U processors. The i7-6500U is listed for discrete-graphics models only. Intel HD Graphics 520 is the integrated option; US discrete-graphics models could include an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX with 2 GB of memory. These are platform options, not features present in every T460.
Weight depends on configuration
Lenovo’s examples range from 1.73 kg for an integrated-graphics, non-touch configuration with two 3-cell batteries to 1.94 kg for a discrete-graphics, multitouch configuration with a 3-cell internal and 6-cell external battery. Do not treat either figure as the weight of every T460.

Which T460 display does it have?
Lenovo lists two main 14-inch anti-glare display resolutions: HD at 1366 × 768 and 200 nits, or FHD IPS at 1920 × 1080 and 250 nits. Optional in-cell multitouch is also listed. A T460 listing that says only “14-inch display” does not establish resolution, panel type, or touch support; check the actual unit or its machine-specific configuration.
Can you upgrade the T460 memory?
Yes. Lenovo specifies two DDR3L SO-DIMM sockets, dual-channel capable, with up to 32 GB of PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3L memory. That makes DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM laptop memory the relevant category to investigate. Confirm the exact machine type and module specifications before ordering: Lenovo’s platform document is not a compatibility guarantee for every third-party module.

Can you upgrade the T460 storage?
Usually, but the correct drive depends on the configuration already in the laptop. Lenovo lists 2.5-inch SATA hard drives in 7 mm or 9.5 mm heights, SATA 6.0 Gb/s SSDs, and PCIe 3.0 × 2 NVMe SSDs on some configurations. An 8 GB NAND SSHD option is also mentioned for Western Europe. The “some configurations” qualification matters: do not assume every T460 has an NVMe-capable slot or that a particular SSD will fit.
- Identify the existing drive and interface before buying a replacement.
- Check the machine type in Lenovo’s Parts Lookup for machine-specific parts and substitution information.
- Match the drive’s interface and physical form factor to the laptop; a connector or drive that looks similar is not enough to establish compatibility.
What to check before buying a used T460
Because the T460 name covers multiple configurations, compare the actual machine rather than relying on a generic specification summary. Ask for the machine type and verify installed hardware where possible.

- Processor model and whether graphics are integrated or discrete.
- Display resolution, IPS panel, and touch capability.
- Installed memory capacity and configuration.
- Storage type, interface, and physical size.
- Battery condition and the exact internal and external battery arrangement.
- Wireless hardware, including whether optional WWAN or WiGig is present.
- Whether an AC adapter is included and whether it is compatible.
Lenovo lists three USB 3.0 ports, one Always On, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, Ethernet (RJ-45), a dock connector, and a 4-in-1 media reader. The platform supports up to three independent displays. Lenovo specifies up to 3840 × 2160 at 60 Hz through DisplayPort using a Mini DisplayPort cable, and 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz through HDMI.

The platform specification lists an optional integrated 3-cell, 23 Wh battery, plus external lithium-ion batteries in 3-cell, 23 Wh or 6-cell, 48 Wh/72 Wh forms. Exact replacement compatibility depends on the machine type and installed configuration. Use Lenovo’s Parts Lookup to identify the relevant FRU and any listed substitution rather than assuming that a marketplace listing for a “T460 battery” fits.

Lenovo’s published battery figures are maximums measured under MobileMark 2014 for the 2016 platform. For integrated-graphics configurations, it lists up to 10.8 hours with a 6-cell 48 Wh external battery, 15.3 hours with a 6-cell 72 Wh external battery, and 20.2 hours with a 3-cell internal battery plus a 6-cell 72 Wh external battery. The corresponding discrete-graphics figures are 10.5, 15.0, and 19.7 hours. These laboratory maximums are not expected runtime for an individual used laptop, especially one with an aged battery.
Power adapter and repair documentation
Lenovo lists 45 W and 65 W Slim AC adapters for the platform. Before replacing a missing or damaged adapter, confirm connector and model compatibility for the specific machine.
