What was Plymouth Argyle’s latest annual wage bill?
BBC Sport reported that Argyle’s wage bill reached a club-record £18 million for the 2024/25 financial year, which ended on 30 June 2025. The report said the bill was up £3 million on the previous season and represented 73.7% of the club’s £28.8 million revenue. BBC Sport’s report on the accounts provides those figures.

Who is estimated to be the highest-paid player?
SalarySport’s 2026/27 estimates list Alex Mitchell as Argyle’s highest-paid player, at £8,500 per week. Annualised, that estimate is £442,000. These are third-party estimates, not salaries confirmed by Argyle or an audited breakdown of player contracts. Treat them as an indication of SalarySport’s current listing, not as proof of what Mitchell or any other player receives. The figures can change as transfers, contract changes and provider updates occur.
Why the annual and squad figures are different
The £18 million figure is a reported club-wide wage bill for the 2024/25 financial year. SalarySport’s approximately £6.6 million figure is its estimate of the wages of 43 listed squad players for 2026/27. They cover different periods and scopes, so they are not competing measurements of the same costs. In particular, the squad estimate should not be used to conclude that Argyle’s total club wage costs have fallen.

How the estimates compare with 2024/25
SalarySport’s archived 2024/25 estimates listed Jamie Paterson as the highest earner at £19,000 a week and put the squad’s total at £6,988,436 a year, or £134,393 a week, across 28 players. The provider’s current 2026/27 listing covers 43 players. These are estimates from the same provider, but the different squad sizes and seasons make them an imperfect comparison; they do not establish how any individual’s contract changed. The best-supported answer for the latest annual club-wide figure is £18 million for 2024/25, as reported by BBC Sport from the accounts. Argyle chairman Simon Hallett, in notes published with the accounts and quoted by BBC Sport, said: “Our strategy has been based on outsmarting our opponents, not outspending them, and in 2024-25 we failed.”
