The “up to 24 cents per litre” warning belongs to a West Australian article published on 9 August 2022—not a current Perth price alert. Its article body is subscriber-gated, so the headline’s underlying station prices and calculation cannot be confirmed from the accessible text. For a later, dated forecast, WA Consumer Protection reported on 29 September 2026 that Perth’s regular-unleaded average was forecast to rise by 12 cents per litre to 238.5 cents per litre from 6am on 30 September. That forecast has passed; check FuelWatch for prices applicable to your area and day.
What did the 24-cent Perth petrol warning refer to?
The claim appeared in a headline by Kellie Balaam in The West Australian, published at 5:27pm on 9 August 2022. It is historical, not a current forecast. The accessible article page does not reveal the station list, the fuel grades affected, or how the “up to 24 cents per litre” figure was calculated, so those details cannot be verified.
For context, WA Consumer Protection issued a separate alert on 29 September 2026. It reported FuelWatch’s forecast that Perth’s regular-unleaded average would rise by 12 cents per litre, to 238.5 cents per litre, from 6am on 30 September 2026. These were figures forecast for that date, not prices for 8 October 2026. WA Consumer Protection’s dated release also said 24 sites had regular unleaded below 222 cents per litre before the forecast rise.
Where can you find the cheapest unleaded near you?
Use FuelWatch’s mobile-compatible map to compare the price for your location. WA Consumer Protection says same-day and next-day prices become available after 2:30pm. The lowest-priced stations can differ between Perth’s east, south and north, so a citywide figure alone may not identify a useful nearby option.
#1 Best Overall
- Check the listed price for the fuel grade your vehicle uses.
- Check the date and time the price applies; a price for another day may not help with today’s fill-up.
- Factor in distance and any detour. A lower price can be offset by the extra trip.

Check the price for the day and area where you plan to buy, then purchase what you need. WA Consumer Protection advises motorists not to stockpile fuel. The September 2026 alert is a dated example of why timing matters: it reported 24 Perth-area sites below 222 cents per litre before the forecast change, but that figure described the day before the 30 September forecast—not an offer available now.
