Did petrol and diesel prices both increase?
No. The October 8 change was mixed: petrol rose and HSD fell. Treating the revision as an increase for both fuels would give drivers and businesses the wrong picture.

Why is this not a 15-day price update?
The latest reported figures apply to October 8, rather than being described as rates fixed for the following 15 days. Dawn reported that Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced daily fuel-price fixing on July 17, 2026, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) deciding prices daily according to international market trends. That policy replaced the recent weekly revision cadence. How do the October 8 rates compare with October 1?
APP reported that petrol was Rs387.40 per litre and HSD Rs400.35 per litre effective October 1. Compared with that baseline, the October 8 reported petrol rate was Rs9.25 higher and HSD was Rs5.41 lower. The comparison spans reported rates on those dates; it does not mean either product moved by that amount in a single revision.

APP said OGRA determined the October 1 ex-depot prices and that the Petroleum Division cited international-market developments, including Platts rates, premiums, and related costs. APP’s October 1 report.
Who feels the change most?
Dawn describes petrol as commonly used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers. HSD is important to heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. As a result, petrol’s increase is more directly relevant to many private motorists, while the lower diesel price matters to freight operators and other HSD users. Dawn also reported combined monthly petrol and HSD sales of about 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes, compared with about 10,000 tonnes of monthly kerosene demand. These are figures published by the newspaper, not independently verified against an original statistical series.
