Why was the announcement delayed?
TechJuice reported that PTA had planned to announce its merger decision on a Wednesday, then moved the announcement to the following week while officials were engaged with the ongoing spectrum auction. The report also said PTCL management still needed to meet PTA’s merger authority and that official minutes were expected after that meeting. Competition Commission approval

APP reported that Telenor Pakistan was formally amalgamated into PTML effective July 2026, after the Islamabad High Court granted final statutory approval. What did the 5G auction mean for Ufone?

In a disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, PTCL said PTML secured 180 MHz across the 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands for USD 156.75 million. The disclosure said PTML would sign the 5G licence after completing formalities and roll out services accordingly. How large was the combined operator?
Dawn, citing PTA data through May 2026, reported that Pakistan had more than 206 million mobile subscribers and that the merged entity represented 35.91% of the subscriber base. These are figures for that reporting period, not October 2026 totals. Dawn’s report using PTA data
The available figures help describe the combined operator’s scale, but they do not by themselves show how its coverage or service quality compares with other operators. A fair comparison would need like-for-like data for the same period, including subscriber share, spectrum by band, coverage and service availability; the cited sources do not establish all of those measures.
