Some Public Mobile customers on specific older plans were notified of price increases in April 2026. Separately, later Public Mobile plan changes were reported as following or matching Freedom Mobile offers. Available reporting does not establish that the earlier increases were made to match Freedom. Here’s what changed and how to compare the plans without treating unlike offers as equivalent.
Which Public Mobile customers saw an April price increase?
A Public Mobile Community forum post reproduced a notice to a subscriber saying a $23 plan would increase by $2 to $25 at the next renewal starting April 1, 2026. Replies in the thread identified two affected legacy plans: $20 for 3GB rising to $24, and $23 for 6GB rising to $25. This was a reported notice and forum discussion, not an announcement establishing changes for every Public Mobile customer or plan. Public Mobile Community, February 2026.
If you are asking, “Is Public Mobile increasing the current cost of my subscription plan,” check your account and renewal notice for the exact plan and effective date. The reported figures concern those particular legacy plans; they do not by themselves show that your rate changed.
How did Public Mobile’s later plans compare with Freedom’s?
The plan lineups changed more than once in 2026, so dated snapshots matter. In April, MobileSyrup reported that Freedom reduced data allowances and that Public made similar adjustments: Public’s $40 plan reportedly moved from 100GB to 75GB and its $45 plan from 175GB to 100GB, while a $50/175GB tier was new. The report also said Public’s under-$30 prices had risen earlier that month. MobileSyrup, April 30, 2026.

On April 29, iPhone in Canada described Public’s promotions ending and its move from $45/175GB to $50/175GB as effectively a price increase; it also said Public’s $40, $45 and $50 tiers then tracked Freedom’s pricing. That is a reporter’s characterization of the plans at the time, not a statement by Public Mobile about why it changed them. iPhone in Canada, April 29, 2026.
In July, iPhone in Canada reported that Public raised the data allowance on its $45 plan from 100GB to 125GB to match a Freedom back-to-school offer. The same report said Freedom’s offer included global roaming while Public Mobile did not offer international roaming, an important difference for travellers. Those were historical promotional terms, not a guarantee that either offer remains available. iPhone in Canada, July 29, 2026.

How to compare the actual cost and coverage
A matching price or data allowance is not enough to establish that two mobile plans are equivalent. Compare the terms that affect your bill and how you use the service:
- Monthly price and promotion duration: Check whether the advertised amount is the standard rate or a temporary promotion, and when any offer ends.
- Data and speed: Compare the allowance and network speed, not just the gigabyte figure.
- Where service works: Confirm the plan’s calling, texting and data coverage, including whether it covers use in the United States or Mexico.
- Roaming: Check which destinations are included and what roaming costs or passes apply. The July comparison illustrates why a domestic data match may not meet an international traveller’s needs.
- Price-guarantee scope: Read what a carrier promises to hold steady and which charges can still change or be added.
What Freedom’s Price Freeze Promise covers
Freedom Mobile says: “The Price Freeze Promise is our guarantee that the price of a wireless rate plan (prior to any discounts or credits) that any customer subscribes to and maintains will never incur a price increase.” The promise concerns the rate-plan price before discounts and credits, not the full bill. Freedom’s policy excludes taxes and levies, device financing, add-ons, pay-per-use charges, passes and other additional charges. Freedom Mobile Price Freeze Promise, checked October 8, 2026.
