A preorder showing a September 25 delivery estimate while a new order shows only a launch date does not, by itself, prove there is a glitch. Those labels may refer to different dates, and whether your existing estimate can change depends on the retailer, seller, item, and order status. Check the wording and details on the existing order, then ask the retailer’s customer service before cancelling or placing another order.
Why the two dates may not match
“Launch date,” “release date,” “ship date,” and “delivery date” are not necessarily interchangeable. A launch or release date can describe when an item becomes available; a ship date describes when an order is expected to leave the seller; a delivery estimate describes when it may reach you. A checkout page for a new order may therefore show different wording from the estimate attached to an existing preorder.
The title does not identify the retailer or item, so the exact cause cannot be determined from the two date displays alone. If the retailer is Amazon US, its seller guidance distinguishes when a product detail page becomes visible from when a seller’s offer becomes preorderable and what ship date is communicated for that offer. What Amazon’s guidance says about existing preorders
Amazon’s US seller guidance says that if a seller changes a release date, existing orders retain the original ship promise; it also says orders may be automatically cancelled if they exceed the fulfillment window. That policy does not establish whether your September 25 delivery estimate will remain visible, be updated, or be met. It concerns the seller’s ship promise, which is not necessarily the same as a buyer-facing delivery estimate.

Amazon also describes Release-Date Delivery for eligible items, with destination exclusions that include Alaska, Hawaii, international destinations, and PO boxes. A preorder or Prime membership alone does not establish that launch-day delivery is available for every item and address. Amazon: Release-Date Delivery
What to check before changing the order
- Open the existing order. Note its current status and the exact date wording: is September 25 shown as a delivery estimate, ship date, or release date?
- Check who is selling and fulfilling it. Record the seller and whether the order is shipped by Amazon or handled by another seller.
- Compare the new-order checkout page. Confirm whether “launch date” is presented as an item availability date or as a shipping or delivery estimate. Compare the same marketplace and destination where possible.
- Ask customer service about the existing order. Provide the order details and ask whether its current estimate is still valid and whether cancelling and reordering would change the price or other terms. Do not assume a fresh order will preserve the earlier estimate.
If the estimated date passes
For an order shipped by Amazon that has not arrived by its estimated delivery date, Amazon’s help page advises customers to contact Customer Service within 30 days of that estimate. If the order is with a different retailer or marketplace, use that seller’s order page and support channel; Amazon’s seller policy and help guidance do not determine another retailer’s dates or remedies.

For eligible Kindle eBooks, Kindle Direct Publishing says a publisher can move a release date earlier and that customers who preordered receive the content on the earlier date.
