Treat an unsolicited text saying a GLP-1 prescription is “pre-approved” as suspicious. Don’t tap its link or provide personal or payment details. Instead, verify the pharmacy through independent channels and discuss any medication decision with a licensed health professional. The reported message and website details below come from Malwarebytes, not an independent investigation of the sender or site.
What does the “pre-approved” GLP-1 text say?
Malwarebytes reported on September 10, 2025, that a co-worker received a text posing as a doctor. The message reproduced in its article read: “Good morning. This is Dr. Santos. I pre-approved your GLP1 prescription. You may start treatment as of 09/04. {followed by a link}” The sender’s identity was not verified.
Malwarebytes reported that the link did not match a known medical or pharmacy provider, passed through a tracking domain, and led to an offer of compounded GLP-1 products. It also named MyStartHealth.com and gave an August 2 first-seen date for a tracking URL pattern, without specifying the year in that sentence. These are Malwarebytes’ reported observations, not independently confirmed findings. Its suggestion that the recipient’s phone number may have been used for tracking was an inference, not a confirmed explanation of the URL parameters. Read Malwarebytes’ report.
Why can an unsolicited prescription offer be risky?
A text message is not proof that a clinician prescribed a medicine or that the linked seller is a legitimate pharmacy. The offer Malwarebytes described involved compounded GLP-1 products, which are not the same as FDA-approved generic drugs. FDA says compounded drugs do not undergo its premarket review for safety, quality, or effectiveness, and should be used only when a patient’s medical needs cannot be met by an available FDA-approved drug. FDA: Compounded drug products are not FDA-approved.

Compounded semaglutide has specific dosing concerns
In a July 26, 2024 alert, FDA described dosing errors involving compounded injectable semaglutide. Confusion among milliliters, milligrams, and “units,” differences in concentrations, and measuring doses from multidose vials can contribute to mistakes. FDA said some patients in the cases it described administered five to 20 times their intended dose. That figure describes reported cases; it is not an incidence rate or an estimate of risk for all users.
Some patients sought medical attention or required hospitalization. FDA’s alert lists reported effects associated with overdoses including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fainting, dehydration, acute pancreatitis, and gallstones. These reports concern compounded semaglutide; they do not mean every patient or every GLP-1 product will cause these outcomes. Read FDA’s semaglutide dosing-error alert.

FDA has also challenged misleading marketing claims
On March 3, 2026, FDA said it issued 30 warning letters to telehealth companies over false or misleading claims about compounded GLP-1 products. FDA identified claims implying compounded products were the same as FDA-approved medicines and marketing that obscured a product’s source. This enforcement action concerns the companies and claims addressed in those letters; it is not a finding about every telehealth service. Read FDA’s announcement.
