Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf your PAN card has not arrived, first check whether you applied for an Instant e-PAN or for a physical card. An allotted PAN can be verified and retrieved online; an Instant e-PAN does not automatically come with a card in the post. The right next step depends on whether your PAN is allotted, whether you need a digital or printed document, and which service handled your request.
First, identify what has not arrived
There are three different situations that can look like a missing PAN card:
- Your PAN application is still pending: Check the status through the service you used to apply.
- Your PAN is allotted, but you cannot access the e-PAN: Use the Income Tax Department’s Instant e-PAN status and download option, if that is how you applied, or check your PAN details through its verification services.
- Your PAN is allotted, but the physical card has not arrived: A digital PAN and a printed card are separate. Use the provider that handled the physical-card request to ask about its status.
A missing physical card alone does not show that your PAN was never allotted. The Department’s Verify your PAN service checks PAN database details and whether the PAN is active; its Know your PAN service can also show PAN details. These are database checks, not shipment trackers.
If you applied for Instant e-PAN, check and download it
Instant e-PAN is a digital issuance service for eligible people who have not already been allotted a PAN. The Income Tax Department’s current FAQ says it is free and requires Aadhaar, an Aadhaar-linked mobile number and DigiLocker access. It does not automatically send a physical card.

#1 Best Overall
- Protects government-size ID badges, photos, recipe cards and more
- Medium-weight construction
- Long side slot-punched
- Short side is sealed
- Includes no clips
- Open the Income Tax Department’s Instant e-PAN service from the e-Filing portal.
- Select Check Status / Download PAN.
- Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and validate the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- If the PAN has been generated and allotted, view or download the e-PAN from the portal.
The Department describes e-PAN as a valid form of PAN. If you need a printed card, request one separately after allotment; submitting another Instant e-PAN request is not a substitute for an already allotted PAN.
If you need a physical PAN card after allotment
The Department’s January 2026 e-PAN FAQ says a printed physical card can be requested after PAN allotment through Protean, UTIITSL or a PAN Service Agent. Use the route that applies to your circumstances and provide the information it requests.

If you have already requested a physical card and it is delayed or marked dispatched, contact the provider that handled that request. The Department’s FAQ does not specify a universal dispatch tracker, delivery deadline or returned-shipment escalation procedure, and the available routes may differ by provider. Ask that provider how to check the shipment and what to do if it was returned or could not be delivered.
Choose the next step by your situation
| Situation | What to do | What this will not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Instant e-PAN request is pending | Check status or download through the e-Filing portal’s Instant e-PAN option using Aadhaar and OTP. | Instant e-PAN is for eligible people who have not already been allotted a PAN. |
| You are unsure whether a PAN was allotted | Use Verify your PAN or Know your PAN on the Income Tax Department portal. | These services check PAN records, not physical-card delivery. |
| PAN is allotted and you need a printed card | Request a print through Protean, UTIITSL or a PAN Service Agent. | The Department’s cited FAQ does not give a current delivery estimate or shipment-specific escalation process. |
| You have a PAN application or update query | Contact the Department-listed Tax Information Network – NSDL number if your query concerns an application handled through NSDL. | The Department does not describe this as a dedicated courier-tracking helpline. |
Contact the service that handled your application
For PAN/TAN issuance and update queries through NSDL, the Income Tax Department lists Tax Information Network – NSDL at +91-20-27218080, with hours of 07:00–23:00 every day. The listing does not identify this number as a courier hotline. If your application or physical-card request went through another provider, contact that provider about its status and delivery process.
