USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of approximately 22,672 pounds of Johnsonville cheddar bratwurst on April 5, 2025, because the product may contain hard plastic. If you have a package matching the details below, do not eat it: throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.
How to tell whether your Johnsonville bratwurst is affected
Check the package itself. The recall applies to one specific product, not all Johnsonville sausages.
- Product: “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst”
- Package: sealed, firm tray containing five pieces; 19 ounces
- Package code: B9FOD
- Establishment number: Est. 1647
- Production date: February 5, 2025
The product details and affected package identifiers are listed in the FSIS recall notice. A different Johnsonville product, size, or package code is not identified in that notice as part of this recall.
What contamination was reported
FSIS said the bratwurst may contain hard plastic. The recall followed two consumer complaints reporting hard plastic in the product. The notice did not say that every package contained plastic, and at the time it was published FSIS reported no injuries or illnesses.
