The US price increase for original Nintendo Switch models took effect August 3, 2025. It also covered selected Switch 2 accessories, but not Switch 2 hardware at that time. The pricing picture has since changed: Nintendo’s standard Switch 2 system MSRP became $499.99 on September 1, 2026. Nintendo currently lists the original Switch at $339.99, the OLED Model at $399.99, and the Lite at $229.99.
What changed in August 2025?
Nintendo raised US prices for the original Switch family and selected Switch 2 accessories, with the adjustment taking effect August 3, 2025, according to contemporaneous reporting. The August change did not include Switch 2 hardware. Thurrott reported the announcement and its scope on August 1, 2025.
The current Nintendo-listed prices for original Switch consoles are not a complete before-and-after record of that 2025 adjustment. As of October 8, 2026, Nintendo’s US product page lists:
- Switch: $339.99
- Switch OLED Model: $399.99
- Switch Lite: $229.99
These are Nintendo’s current listed prices; a retailer’s selling price may differ. See Nintendo’s US hardware listings.

Did Switch 2 get more expensive?
Not in the August 2025 increase: that adjustment applied to selected accessories, not Switch 2 hardware. Nintendo later announced that the standard Switch 2 system’s US MSRP would be $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. That later hardware price change should not be confused with the 2025 adjustment. Nintendo’s announcements provide the later pricing context, and its Switch 2 page shows system and bundle listings.
Which Switch 2 accessories increased in price?
Nintendo announced in April 2025 that prices for selected Switch 2 accessories would be adjusted from those initially announced. Its April 18 announcement said the adjustment was “due to changes in market conditions.” It listed the Joy-Con 2 Pair at $94.99 before those later accessory adjustments, so that figure is not a confirmed current price. Nintendo cited changes in market conditions for the April 2025 Switch 2 accessory adjustments. Its announcement also said: “Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.” The collected official statements do not specify a more detailed reason for the August 2025 original Switch increase, so claims that Nintendo officially attributed it to tariffs go beyond what these sources establish.

How to compare prices before buying
- Identify the product first: an original Switch console, a Switch 2 system, or a Switch 2 accessory.
- Compare Nintendo’s listed MSRP with the retailer’s actual price, which can vary.
- Check the date attached to a price. April 2025 accessory figures predate the later accessory adjustments.
- Verify the exact model and compatibility on the individual listing rather than assuming all Switch-family accessories work with Switch 2.
