Those are historical promotion values—not prices you can assume are available now. Tom’s Guide reported the offer on April 20, 2025, with trades beginning April 24.
How much did GameStop offer for an original Switch toward Switch 2?
Tom’s Guide reported these GameStop trade-in values for the 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 preorder promotion:
| Original Switch model | Reported 2025 trade-in credit |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch OLED | $175 |
| Standard Nintendo Switch | $125 |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | $100 |
These were reported promotion values for credit toward a Switch 2 preorder, not cash offers or guaranteed amounts for later trades. Tom’s Guide’s April 20, 2025 report said GameStop would begin accepting the consoles on April 24.
The report also said GameStop Pro members would receive an extra 10% on standard Switch trade-in credit during that promotion. That qualifier applies to the reported 2025 offer; it does not establish a current Pro-member benefit.

Are those GameStop prices still available?
No. The figures above describe a 2025 preorder promotion and should not be treated as redeemable today. A GameStop standard Switch trade page displayed a quote generated October 2, 2026, of up to $60 in regular store credit or $42 cash; its Pro figures were up to $66 in store credit or $46.20 cash. That quote expired at the end of October 2, so it is only a dated example—not an offer valid on October 8, 2026, or a guarantee of what a particular store will pay.
The later page quoted a standard Switch only. It does not establish current OLED or Lite values. For an up-to-date estimate, request a fresh quote for your specific console and location, then confirm the participating store and its requirements before going in. GameStop says its trade-in program is limited to select products and select stores in the United States and Guam; program terms and availability can change.

How to compare a trade-in with the cost of upgrading
The trade credit is only one part of the upgrade cost. Compare the amount you can actually receive for your console—whether as store credit or cash—with the Switch 2 price, and account for the console’s condition, included components and local store participation. Nintendo’s investor presentation dated May 8, 2026, lists a U.S. Switch 2 MSRP increase from $449.99 to $499.99, effective September 1, 2026. Nintendo says U.S. prices exclude tax. This is purchase-price context, not a GameStop trade-in quote. Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 investor presentation provides the official pricing information.

GameStop says trade values depend on condition and required components. Its standard Switch trade page states, “Trades must be in full working condition to receive full value.” The retailer also says all trades are subject to manager approval, and trades are final. Confirm the current requirements with your local store before making the trip.
