U.S. shoppers spent an estimated $11.9 billion online across retailers during Amazon Prime Day’s 48-hour event in 2022, according to Adobe Analytics figures attributed by Axios. That was a retail-wide estimate—not a dollar total Amazon reported for its own sales.
What does the $11.9 billion figure cover?
The figure refers to online spending across U.S. retailers during the two-day 2022 Prime Day event. Axios attributed the estimate to Adobe Analytics. It should not be described as Amazon’s own reported revenue: the estimate covers retailer websites more broadly, and Amazon did not disclose a corresponding dollar total in the sources cited here.

The available attribution establishes the estimate and its scope, but does not provide the original 2022 Adobe report’s detailed methodology. Treat $11.9 billion as an attributed estimate, not an audited Amazon sales figure.
Why do some reports cite $22.4 billion?
The $22.4 billion figure covers the broader 2022 Prime Day week, according to the same Axios report’s attribution to Adobe Analytics. It is not a competing estimate for the 48-hour event. The numbers use different time windows: $11.9 billion for the event’s two days and $22.4 billion for the wider week.

How does the 2022 figure compare with 2024?
Adobe Analytics estimated that U.S. online retailers generated $14.2 billion during the two-day 2024 Prime Day event, July 16–17, an 11% increase year over year. Adobe’s report says its analysis covered online commerce transactions across U.S. retail sites and 18 product categories, drawing on more than one trillion visits and 100 million SKUs. Adobe also states that its figures are not adjusted for inflation.
The $14.2 billion estimate is a later event’s retail-wide total; it does not revise or replace the 2022 figure. A direct comparison should account for the different years and the fact that the reported dollar amounts are not inflation-adjusted.

What did Amazon report about its own 2024 event?
Amazon called Prime Day 2024 its biggest event by its own sales and item-volume measures, but its announcement did not give a dollar sales total. That company statement describes Amazon’s event; it is separate from Adobe’s estimate of spending across U.S. retailer sites.
