What happened to the 50% off Monarch deal?
Engadget’s deal story, updated December 19, 2025, said new users could enter MONARCHVIP at checkout for 50% off an annual subscription’s first year: $50 instead of the $100 annual price stated in that story. As of October 8, 2026, Monarch’s official pricing page advertises 30% off Core for one year with code WELCOME. Monarch says the code is for new users, cannot be combined with other offers, and may expire or be deactivated. The checkout screen is the practical test of whether the offer applies to your account and region.

What do you get with Monarch?
Monarch describes Core as including budgeting, net-worth tracking, custom reports, savings and debt goals, and access on the web, mobile devices, and iPad. The company says it connects to more than 13,000 banks and financial institutions; that figure is Monarch’s own connectivity claim, not an independent measurement.

Who might find the subscription worthwhile?
Monarch’s feature set is aimed at people who want a more customizable view of budgets and goals, and Engadget’s 2025 review praised those strengths. Engadget also noted a learning curve, less intuitive mobile use, and difficulty distinguishing bills from other recurring expenses. Those are Engadget’s review observations, not fresh testing.

If your priority is a simpler budgeting app, Engadget named Quicken Simplifi as an alternative. Current Simplifi prices and availability are not established here, so compare its current plan terms directly before choosing.
When comparing Monarch with another service, consider the first-year price and renewal price separately, monthly versus annual billing, trial and cancellation terms, budgeting flexibility, account connections, collaboration needs, and whether the mobile experience works for you.
