The “one day left” deadline in this headline was March 15, 2018—not a current application deadline. TechJuice published the notice on March 14, 2018, describing Ignite’s National Grassroots ICT Research Initiative (NGIRI), which supported selected undergraduate ICT final year projects in Pakistan. Ignite’s later materials show that the program continued, but they do not establish a currently open call or deadline.
What the March 2018 notice offered
NGIRI was presented as support for selected undergraduate final year projects in computer science and information technology, electrical and electronics engineering, telecom and computer engineering, software engineering, and mechatronics. The stated aim was to help university teams develop hands-on engineering work and prototypes.
The notice described two distinct phases:
- Phase I: project support. Universities nominated projects for Ignite to evaluate. The notice described assistance for equipment and prototype development, reporting amounts up to PKR 70,000 and PKR 10,000 “for both, respectively.” Its wording does not clearly assign each amount to a specific cost, so the allocation should not be inferred.
- Phase II: national competition. Projects that qualified in Phase I could advance to a national competition. Each university nominated one project, and the notice listed prizes for winning student teams and their supervisors.
The phase distinction matters: the reported development support concerned selected projects, while the later competition was limited to projects that passed Phase I.
How applications worked in that call
For the 2018 notice, a student could not apply directly under the stated process. The respective Head of Department had to nominate the project using the prescribed application form. Ignite said it would process hard-copy nominations sent to the address on that form and would not accept online submissions. The deadline stated in the notice was March 15, 2018.

Those instructions describe that historical call only. They should not be used as application guidance for a future round; submission method, eligibility, funding terms, and deadline would need to be confirmed in the relevant live Ignite call and form.
What Ignite’s later figures show—and do not show
Ignite’s FY 2023–24 annual report confirms later NGIRI activity, but it does not make the 2018 deadline or terms current. The report distinguishes projects submitted, shortlisted, and funded, and reports expense-report verification for shortlisted projects as in process.

These are administrative figures published by Ignite, not independent evaluations of the initiative’s impact. “Submitted,” “shortlisted,” “funded,” and “disbursed” describe different stages and should not be treated as interchangeable counts.

The available official materials establish that NGIRI was active after 2018, but not that applications are open now. Before relying on a deadline or preparing a submission, check Ignite’s current official program information and call documents for the terms of that specific round.

- Check eligible institutions, disciplines, project stage, and nomination requirements.
- Read the current form for funding limits, allowable costs, and required documents.
- Follow the submission method and destination specified in the current call; do not assume that the 2018 hard-copy-only process still applies.
