Nintendo accounted for 553.6 million of the 613.6 million video game TV ad impressions reported from March 16 through April 15, 2021—about 90% of the total. That is a historical share of measured gaming-ad impressions, not a current March–April result or a measure of ad spending, game sales, or all television advertising.
What the 90% figure measures
A report published April 24, 2021, by GamesBeat/VentureBeat and credited to Eleanor Semeraro of iSpot.tv counted TV ad impressions for nine video game brands during the 31-day period from March 16 to April 15, 2021. Across those advertisers, it reported 613.6 million impressions. Nintendo’s 553.6 million amounted to roughly 90% of that category total. Top Tech News’ reproduction of the report is the available source for these figures.
An impression is a reported opportunity for an ad to be seen on television; it is not a count of unique viewers. The 90% denominator here is the report’s total for the nine gaming brands it measured. It should not be read as Nintendo’s share of all TV ads, the gaming market, advertising budgets, or consumer purchases.
How Nintendo compared with other advertisers
Nintendo ran 24 spots more than 4,400 times, generating 553.6 million reported impressions. PlayStation ranked second, with 46.5 million impressions. Its leading spot, “Explorers,” accounted for 30.1 million. The report also names MLB Advanced Media video games, Milestone, and THQ Games among the top five advertisers.

The figures describe measured television exposure during one specific month. They show Nintendo had far more reported TV impressions than the other brands in this report, but they do not explain why. The report does not establish campaign spending, advertising effectiveness, sales results, market share, or the companies’ activity on digital and streaming channels. A larger impression count alone cannot show that an ad caused more purchases or was more cost-effective.
