Perth businessman James Kelly opened Boulevard IGA at 31 Gayton Road, City Beach, in August 2016. PerthNow reported at the time that the supermarket operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week; that opening-era schedule does not establish the store’s current hours or status.
What opened in City Beach
PerthNow reported on 25 August 2016 that Boulevard IGA was Kelly’s third IGA supermarket. The report also said the Kelly Group owned Taylor Road IGA in Nedlands and 2nd Avenue IGA in Mount Lawley at the time.
The City Beach store was described as a 1,000-square-metre supermarket. Its reported features included a tortilla-making machine, a flower station and a fresh juice station, alongside an in-house food stylist and chef. One specialty item was the Duffin, described in the report as a cross between a muffin and a jam doughnut.
Jobs and local suppliers
PerthNow reported that the opening created 85 jobs, including roles for chefs, butchers, bakers, florists and retail specialists.
