The clearest contemporary report put Naoya Inoue’s earnings for his May 6, 2024 fight against Luis Nery at ¥1 billion, described at the time as about US$6.5 million. That figure was attributed to Inoue’s manager, Hideyuki Ohashi, through journalist Michael Benson; it was not confirmed by a public purse filing.
What was Naoya Inoue’s reported purse?
On May 8, 2024, Mediotiempo reproduced journalist Michael Benson’s report that Inoue’s manager, Hideyuki Ohashi, had put the fighter’s earnings at ¥1 billion—then rendered as approximately US$6.5 million. This is the most directly traceable contemporary figure in the available reporting, but it remains a reported claim rather than a publicly verified payout record. Mediotiempo’s report
The US$6.5 million conversion belongs to that 2024 report. It should not be read as a current conversion of ¥1 billion, nor as a separate confirmed payment amount.
Why do some sources say US$8.5 million?
A purse-history page from SalaryLeaks lists US$8.5 million for the Nery fight and attributes the amount to Ohashi. The surfaced page does not show the underlying documentation, so it is a conflicting secondary estimate—not independent confirmation of the ¥1 billion report. The two figures should not be averaged or treated as a verified earnings range. SalaryLeaks’ Inoue purse-history page

What the reported figure does—and does not—tell us
The reports do not provide an itemized compensation breakdown. They do not establish whether the figure covers only a fight purse or includes other possible earnings such as incentives, broadcast-related income, sponsorships, or merchandise. It is therefore more precise to call ¥1 billion a reported earnings figure than to claim that a particular contract or public filing confirms Inoue’s purse.
