That is the latest dated official milestone covered here; it does not independently establish the club’s ownership on 8 October 2026.
Who was the 44-year-old in the takeover report?
The Guardian identified him as James Bord, a prospective buyer whose consortium had been interested in Sheffield Wednesday. The outlet also reported that Bord’s data company, Short Circuit Science, had previously held a recruitment consultancy contract with Sheffield United. That reported business relationship is not evidence that Bord owned Sheffield United or that the club was involved in the Wednesday bid. The Guardian’s report provides that background.
What happened to Bord’s consortium?
On 25 February 2026, the Guardian reported that Bord’s consortium had withdrawn its interest in Sheffield Wednesday. The earlier headline should therefore be read as a historical account of a prospective bid, not as a current contender update.

What did the EFL say about administration and a points deduction?
The EFL stated: “Consequently, the EFL can now confirm that the Club, under its new ownership, has met the relevant League requirements and is therefore no longer regarded as in Administration.” The statement dated 2 May 2026 also said the EFL board decided not to impose a 15-point deduction following the club’s exit from administration, after considering proposals made to the former owner by the joint administrators and the new ownership. The EFL’s points-deduction statement sets out that decision.

Is there a newer ownership update?
The available dated announcements establish the completed Arise agreement in May 2026, but do not establish whether another ownership change occurred between that statement and 8 October 2026. The May announcement is therefore a confirmed milestone, not verification of the club’s ownership on the later date.
