Sheffield Wednesday, meanwhile, had already transferred its assets to Arise Capital Partners in May. The Bordeaux agreement is reported, but its completion has not been independently verified here.
What is the new James Bord takeover twist?
On 25 September 2026, City A.M. reported that Bord’s Park Bench investment vehicle had agreed to acquire Girondins de Bordeaux for a nominal €1. The report said the agreement had been reported to Bordeaux’s commercial court and that Gerard Lopez would renounce half of the debt owed to him. The reported €1 is not established as the total economic cost: the report also describes debt arrangements.
City A.M. framed the deal as prospective. Its report is evidence of an agreement being reported, not independent confirmation that the acquisition has completed or that its final terms are settled.
Is James Bord buying Sheffield Wednesday?
No new Wednesday bid is established by the available reports. Bord’s consortium withdrew from its proposed takeover on 25 February 2026. The later Bordeaux report concerns a separate club and does not indicate that Bord has returned as a Wednesday bidder.

Who took over Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners became the successful buyer. On 2 May 2026, the EFL said the transfer of Wednesday’s assets to Arise was complete and that the club was no longer regarded as being in administration. The EFL waived the 15-point deduction that would otherwise have applied on exit from administration. It also announced a budget restriction for the next two seasons, while allowing player registrations under the agreed business plan.

What Bord said when his Wednesday bid ended
BBC reported that the consortium described its proposed Wednesday bid as £47.8 million and said it had spent more than £4 million helping run the club over the prior two months. Those figures were the bidders’ claims as quoted by BBC, not independently audited amounts. The consortium said: “The historic mishandling of the club and pattern of catastrophic underinvestment means our sizeable binding bid can no longer be justified.” It added: “We have spent over £4m to help run the club over the last two months and, after much consideration, have decided that we can no longer continue to do so.”

Does a Companies House filing mean Wednesday’s takeover was reversed?
Not on the evidence of the filing alone. Companies House lists an administration-extension notice filed on 30 August 2026 for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited. The reviewed company record does not explain how that legacy company’s filings relate to the EFL’s statement that the club’s assets transferred to Arise and that Wednesday was no longer regarded as in administration. It therefore cannot, by itself, establish that the takeover was reversed.
