The $17.99 price was an earlier rate: Standard rose from $15.49 to $17.99 in July 2025, then to $19.99 in Netflix’s March 2026 increase. Netflix also lists Standard with ads at $8.99 per month and Premium at $26.99 per month. Prices are monthly; package pricing, eligibility, and taxes can affect an individual bill.
What Netflix plans cost in the U.S.
Netflix’s current U.S. plan page lists these monthly prices and features. The company says its Basic plan has been discontinued. See Netflix’s plan and pricing information for its current terms.

Netflix lists extra-member pricing at $7.99 per month with ads or $9.99 per month without ads. It notes that extra-member availability and package pricing can vary when Netflix is included through a package or add-on; taxes may also apply depending on location.
Why $17.99 is no longer the current Standard price
The $17.99 figure was the U.S. Standard price after Netflix’s July 17, 2025 increase from $15.49. Comcast customer notices reproduced in a June 2025 New York State Department of Public Service filing document that earlier change. In March 2026, Netflix raised Standard again, from $17.99 to $19.99 per month. TechCrunch reported the March increase alongside changes to the other tiers: Standard with ads rose from $7.99 to $8.99, and Premium from $24.99 to $26.99.

Netflix says plans and prices may change as it adds shows, movies, and product features, and that local market changes—including taxes or inflation—can be reasons for an adjustment. Its explanation is in Why your Netflix price changed.
When the higher price applies to your account
TechCrunch reported that the new prices applied to new members starting March 26, 2026, while existing subscribers would see the change over the following months. That does not mean every existing account changed on the same date. Netflix says it emails members and displays an in-service message detailing a price change one month before the higher amount applies to the billing date. If Netflix is billed as a package add-on, the partner sends the notice.

- Check the price-change email or in-service message from Netflix for the date your new rate begins.
- Compare that date with your Netflix account’s plan and payment history, or with the bill from the package partner that charges you.
- If the charge does not match the notice, check whether taxes, package terms, or an extra-member charge are part of the amount before comparing it with the standalone plan price.
Ways to respond to a higher bill
Netflix bills plans monthly and does not offer annual, multi-month, or lifetime memberships, according to its plan information. You can change your plan or cancel at any time. If Standard’s increase changes your budget decision, compare the features you actually use before switching: Standard with ads costs less but includes ads and has some unavailable titles, while Premium costs more for four-device viewing, 4K with HDR, more download devices, and capacity for up to two extra members.
