When the new Rs 100 note entered circulation
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) listed a circulation notice for its Rs 100 (2024 series) banknotes on November 26, 2025. Nepalese outlet Fiscal Nepal reported that the note entered circulation on November 27. NRB’s Currency Management Department notices archive lists the notice; the release timing and design details below are attributed to the reporting.
What the note looks like
Fiscal Nepal’s November 27, 2025 report describes the front as featuring Mount Everest on the left, a rhododendron watermark on the right and Nepal’s updated political map in the center. The map includes Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.
Other reported front-side features include an Ashoka Pillar, the English inscription “Lumbini: The Birthplace of Lord Buddha,” a tactile black dot intended to help identify the denomination, and a silver metallic oval with an image of Maya Devi. The report describes a 2 mm security thread that appears red when viewed straight on and green when tilted. The reverse reportedly shows a one-horned rhinoceros with its calf.

Fiscal Nepal says the note retains the size, color and format of earlier Rs 100 notes while incorporating design and security changes. That is a reported comparison, not an independent measurement. The note’s legal assurance is reported as: “Nepal Government guarantees the payment of this one hundred rupees on demand at Nepal Rastra Bank.”
What “2024 series” means on the note
The series designation is 2024 AD. Fiscal Nepal reports that the lower border carries “वि.सं. २०८१” and the reverse shows “2024 AD.” The report gives the serial range as Ka20 000001 to Gha40 999999.

Why the map is disputed
The map represents Nepal’s updated political map and includes Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura. The Indian Express reported on November 27, 2025 that India maintains these territories belong to it. This is a competing territorial claim, not a question resolved by the note’s design. No direct official Indian government response to the November 2025 release is established in the cited reporting.
