No. Anas Sefrioui was linked to a possible Sheffield Wednesday takeover in 2025, but SNRT News reported on 22 April 2025 that he denied any discussions or negotiations and said he had no intention of investing in the club. Sheffield Wednesday’s later sale was completed in May 2026 by a different buyer, Arise Capital Partners LLC.
What happened to the Anas Sefrioui takeover reports?
On 22 April 2025, Moroccan outlet SNRT News published a French-language fact-check addressing whether Sefrioui was about to acquire Sheffield Wednesday. It reported that he formally denied involvement, saying he had entered no discussions or negotiations and had expressed no intention to invest in the club, directly or indirectly. SNRT News reported the denial; the underlying statement was not independently reviewed for this account, so it is best treated as reported speech rather than a verified direct quotation.
That means the 2025 reports did not establish that Sefrioui was a bidder or prospective owner. The denial also should not be confused with the separate transaction that Sheffield Wednesday completed the following year.
Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
On 10 March 2026, the club’s administrators named Arise Capital Partners LLC as preferred bidder, noting that it had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds. The announcement named David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as members of the consortium. Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators announced Arise as preferred bidder.

On 2 May 2026, the English Football League (EFL) confirmed that the administrators had completed an agreement to transfer the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners and that Sheffield Wednesday was no longer in administration. The EFL confirmed the completed asset transfer. BBC Sport also reported the sale as complete and identified David Storch as consortium leader. BBC Sport’s account of the takeover said it ended Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership.
How the rumour differs from the completed sale
| Date | Event | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 22 April 2025 | Reports linked Sefrioui to a possible acquisition. | SNRT News reported that Sefrioui denied discussions, negotiations or intent to invest; this was a reported denial, not a completed deal. SNRT News. |
| 10 March 2026 | Arise Capital Partners became preferred bidder. | The administrators named Arise and its members David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin. Sheffield Wednesday. |
| 2 May 2026 | The sale to Arise was completed. | The EFL confirmed the asset transfer and the club’s exit from administration. EFL. |
The distinction is important: Sefrioui was associated with a rumour that he denied, while Arise was named preferred bidder and then completed the asset purchase. The reviewed transaction sources do not identify Sefrioui as part of the Arise consortium.

What is known about ownership now?
Sheffield Wednesday’s 15 June 2026 partnership prospectus described Arise as the consortium that stepped forward. The club’s prospectus is consistent with the EFL’s May confirmation of the sale. These sources establish the transaction and refer to Arise through June 2026, but do not establish whether ownership changed after that date. For a current ownership claim, check newer club, EFL or regulator records.
