SEGA SAMMY reported that Metaphor: ReFantazio reached one million global units within its first day, and said its launch sales exceeded initial expectations. Company materials later listed two million units in a June 2025 presentation and 2.46 million in repeat-unit-sales material in June 2026. Those milestones make the game’s performance look encouraging for a new ATLUS property, but they do not establish its profit, break-even point, or lifetime sales total.
How many copies has Metaphor: ReFantazio sold?
The latest figure in the cited company materials is 2.46 million units, shown by SEGA SAMMY in repeat-unit-sales material in its June 2026 investor presentation, in the FY2026/3 reporting context. It should be described with that context: the presentation does not establish that 2.46 million is a newly updated lifetime total.

The 2024 announcement specifies how its one-million figure was counted. The later figures come from separate presentation contexts, so they are best read as milestones reported by the company rather than as perfectly interchangeable measurements.
Did Metaphor: ReFantazio sell one million copies in a day?
Yes. ATLUS and SEGA SAMMY announced on October 11, 2024 that global cumulative units reached one million within the first day after release. The count included physical shipments and downloadable sales, so “one million units” is more precise than saying one million copies were bought directly by consumers that day.

SEGA SAMMY’s Q2 FY2025/3 presentation also described the title as a new intellectual property and said: “Despite being a new IP, it sold in excess of one million units on the launch day, with sales exceeding initial expectation.” The company did not disclose the forecast behind that expectation in the cited presentation. Are Metaphor: ReFantazio sales good for ATLUS?
The evidence supports calling the launch and subsequent reported milestones encouraging for a new ATLUS property. The clearest indicator is SEGA SAMMY’s own statement that launch sales exceeded initial expectations; the later two-million and 2.46-million figures show continued commercial sales in subsequent company reporting.

Those sales figures do not show whether the game was profitable or passed its break-even point. The cited materials do not disclose its development and marketing costs, original unit target, or a decision about a sequel. Nor do they establish a matched ATLUS comparison: a fair comparison would need the same time period, geography, unit-counting method, and platform scope.

SEGA announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version with a physical standard edition scheduled for November 12, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, that release is still upcoming, so its contribution to sales has not yet been reported.
