Micro Center is often the better fit if you live near a store and value local stock, in-person service, or returning a store purchase locally. Newegg can be more convenient for online shopping, but check whether the specific listing is sold and shipped by Newegg or by a marketplace seller. Neither retailer is reliably cheaper across the board. Compare the exact item’s delivered cost, availability, price-match eligibility, return terms, and the service you may need.
How to choose between Micro Center and Newegg
Start with the purchase, not the retailer’s reputation. A lower listed price may not mean a lower checkout total once shipping, tax, pickup, and bundle conditions are considered. Availability also differs: Micro Center’s product selection, local pricing, and stock depend on the store you select, while Newegg listings can vary by seller.
Micro Center’s site asks shoppers to select a store to see local pricing and availability. Check the selected store and product availability, then compare the same model or UPC at Newegg. On Newegg, verify the seller and shipper on the item page; a marketplace listing is not equivalent to one sold and shipped by Newegg.
- Lean toward Micro Center if a nearby location has the item and you expect to use local returns, installation, diagnostics, or repair services.
- Lean toward Newegg if online ordering suits you better and the exact listing’s seller, total cost, and return terms work for your purchase.
Compare the full cost of the same item
Match the exact product, including model number and UPC where available. Then compare the total you would actually pay, not just the headline price. This comparison is item- and location-specific; no live matched-item price survey establishes that either retailer is generally cheaper.

Price matching works differently at each retailer
Micro Center: competitor price matching
Micro Center’s support policy, dated January 9, 2025, says it may match eligible prices from major retailers and manufacturer sites. The product must meet the policy’s model and/or UPC requirements and be in stock. A brick-and-mortar competitor must have nearby retail stock; a shipped listing must be sold and shipped directly by that competitor. A match is subject to approval, not guaranteed. Read Micro Center’s price-match requirements and exclusions.
The policy excludes a range of offers, including clearance, refurbished, remanufactured, off-lease, pre-owned, and open-box items; rebates, coupons, promotions, and bundles; out-of-stock items; and member-only prices. Check the current policy and the specific offer before relying on a match.

Newegg: eligible post-purchase price drops on Newegg
Newegg’s policy, updated July 21, 2026, is not a match against a competitor’s price. It covers an eligible item sold and shipped by Newegg that drops in price on Newegg within seven calendar days of purchase. If approved, the difference is issued as a Newegg Customer Care card. External competitor prices and third-party marketplace listings are excluded. Check Newegg’s price-match policy for eligibility and request details.
Return windows, methods, and possible fees
Return terms can change the effective cost of a purchase, especially for components that may be incompatible or defective. The rules differ by product category, condition, weight, and seller, so confirm the item-level terms before ordering.

These include desktops, laptops, tablets, processors, motherboards, drones, cameras, projectors, cell phones, 3D printers, and Microsoft Surface products. The overview notes exceptions for processors and motherboards purchased in bundles. Other products qualify for 30 days. It says there is no restocking fee and that purchases made in store must be returned in person. Review Micro Center’s current return policy for the exact product and any exceptions.
Newegg
Newegg’s return policy, updated August 19, 2026, says eligible products weighing 50 pounds or less include free return labels. For heavier products, free return shipping is limited to items received defective or damaged. Local service and price protection
Micro Center describes services including diagnostics, laptop screen and battery replacement, upgrades, data migration and recovery, device repair, part installation, full PC builds, and software support. These offerings may matter if you want help beyond buying components, but their usefulness depends on having access to a store. See Micro Center’s support services and store-dependent product information.
Micro Center also describes price protection for certain price reductions during its return window. This is separate from matching a competing retailer’s offer. Its policy lists exceptions, including Trading Card Game products, other retailers’ special sales such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and comparing a new item’s price with an open-box or clearance listing. Check Micro Center’s price-protection terms before counting on an adjustment.
