What is Changelly?
Changelly describes itself as a crypto exchange and service provider, not a bank or a wallet provider. Its offerings include instant crypto swaps, crypto purchases and sales, a separate PRO trading service, business APIs and crypto payments, and Changelly Earn, which it describes as an affiliate program. These are the company’s descriptions of its products, not independent assessments of their quality, safety, fees, or regulatory status. Changelly’s About page also identifies Ledger among its wallet integration partners.
Changelly says its exchange sources offers through other trading platforms. The available product, payment method, supported assets, and terms may depend on the route you select; check the relevant product interface rather than assuming all services work the same way. Changelly’s homepage describes an average transaction-time range, but that is a company estimate, not a guarantee or an independently measured performance result. Blockchain congestion and other transaction conditions can affect timing.
How does a Changelly crypto swap work?
The core swap is a send-and-receive transaction using an address you supply. Changelly’s FAQ lays out this sequence:

- Choose the cryptocurrency pair and select a fixed or floating rate, if both options are offered.
- Enter the address of the wallet where you want to receive the exchanged asset.
- Review and confirm the transaction details shown by the service.
- Send the specified cryptocurrency to the deposit address provided for that transaction.
- After processing, receive the exchanged asset at the destination address you entered.
Changelly states: “Changelly does not provide you with a wallet or any address to receive your cryptocurrency.” You are responsible for providing an address that supports the asset and network used. Check the address and network carefully before sending; do not assume a transfer to an incorrect address can be recovered. Changelly’s FAQ describes the workflow and wallet arrangement.
What is the difference between fixed and floating rates?
According to Changelly’s FAQ, a fixed-rate transaction keeps the final amount as quoted, while the final amount for a floating-rate transaction may change with market conditions. The pair and rate options available can vary. A displayed rate is not the only detail to consider: review the estimated amount to receive, applicable fees, network, and transaction terms in the live quote before confirming.

Does Changelly have a wallet?
No. Changelly says it does not provide a wallet for receiving the result of a core swap. You supply the destination address, so you need a compatible wallet or other destination that you control or are authorized to use. A hardware wallet is one optional self-custody choice, not a requirement for Changelly. Confirm that your specific wallet supports the asset and network in the transaction; Changelly’s identification of Ledger as an integration partner does not establish compatibility for every model, asset, or network.
Can a Changelly transaction require KYC?
Yes. Changelly’s official API KYC/AML policy says a transaction may be put on hold for KYC procedures and tells API integrators to disclose that possibility to users. Changelly’s policy states: “Please be aware that we have an AML/KYC policy;” Do not rely on an expectation of anonymous or verification-free use. Requirements may depend on the product, transaction, payment provider, and location. Changelly’s KYC/AML policy describes the possibility of a hold.

What should you check before using Changelly?
- Live quote and rate behavior: Check the amount you are expected to receive, whether the quote is fixed or floating, and the fees and terms shown for that specific transaction.
- Address and network: Make sure the destination wallet accepts the exact asset on the selected network, then verify the address before sending.
- Minimums and network costs: Changelly says minimum limits are dynamic and depend on exchange rates and market conditions. Its FAQ also warns that an amount that does not cover a currency’s network fee may not be refundable. Check the current interface and terms rather than relying on a remembered minimum.
- Verification and eligibility: Check whether the selected product, payment route, and transaction are available to you and whether verification may be required. Changelly’s Buy FAQ directs users to its Terms of Use for supported countries and territories; it does not establish a complete jurisdiction list or licensing status here.
- Processing expectations: Changelly says purchase processing can take longer than several minutes because of order volume, additional security checks, payment method, or blockchain congestion. Treat any timing shown or described by the company as an estimate, not a guaranteed completion time. Changelly’s Buy FAQ outlines these factors.
- Support and recovery: Before transferring funds, understand the service’s support and recovery procedures for the chosen product. Do not assume a mistaken address or an underfunded transaction can be reversed.
How should you compare Changelly with another exchange?
Compare the same asset pair and amount at the same time, then assess the full transaction rather than a headline rate. Relevant differences include:
- the total amount expected at the destination after fees;
- whether the quote is fixed or floating and how the final amount is determined;
- when KYC may be required and whether transactions can be held;
- who controls the wallet and destination address;
- which assets and networks are available in your location;
- which fiat payment methods and third-party providers are involved; and
- what support and recovery options apply if a transaction is delayed or something goes wrong.
Changelly’s supported assets, rates, product coverage, and regional availability can change. Its pages also show varying self-reported product counts, so a count should not be treated as a stable or independently verified measure. Check the current product and transaction details for your specific needs.

What is Changelly Earn?
Changelly describes Earn as an affiliate program that pays based on a share of commission charged on referred exchange transactions. The company’s About page says the program is available to users outside the UK and that terms are available on request; its Earn page describes the commission-sharing arrangement. Eligibility, written terms, promotional rules, and disclosure obligations should be verified with the company before participation. Changelly’s Ledger partnership does not by itself establish a Ledger affiliate program or approved referral arrangement.
