Mark Mateschitz is an Austrian heir whose fortune is tied principally to his inherited stake in Red Bull. Forbes estimated his net worth at $43.7 billion as of October 3, 2026, a real-time estimate rather than a fixed or audited value. That ranking makes him one of Europe’s wealthiest millennials, but it does not mean he founded Red Bull or personally runs its day-to-day business.

Who is Mark Mateschitz?

Mark Mateschitz was born in May 1992 and is Austrian, according to the UK Companies House record for Red Bull Technology Limited. He is the son of Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who died in October 2022. Forbes and an Institute of Directors case study say Mark inherited his father’s 49% stake in Red Bull.

That inheritance is the central explanation for Mark’s wealth. Red Bull was founded by Dietrich Mateschitz in the mid-1980s; the company’s history and product are distinct from Mark’s later role as an heir and shareholder.

How much is Mark Mateschitz worth?

Forbes displayed a real-time net worth estimate of $43.7 billion on October 3, 2026. Because Red Bull is privately held, there is no public share price that directly establishes the value of Mark’s stake. The Forbes figure is an estimate, not a disclosed cash balance, audited personal statement or permanent valuation. Rankings and estimates can change as underlying assumptions and asset valuations change.

How much of Red Bull does Mark Mateschitz own?

Forbes and the Institute of Directors case study report that Mark inherited a 49% stake in Red Bull from his father. That figure should be attributed to those secondary sources; the material available here does not independently establish a complete, current Red Bull GmbH shareholder register.

A separate UK registry record provides a narrower, legally specific data point. Companies House lists Mark as holding more than 25% but not more than 50% of shares in Red Bull Technology Limited, and records rights to appoint or remove directors. Red Bull Technology Limited is a UK company, so this band is not an exact statement of his ownership in Red Bull GmbH. Companies House also cautions that it does not verify the accuracy of information filed.

How big is the Red Bull business behind the inheritance?

Red Bull’s official company profile says the energy drink launched in Austria on April 1, 1987. The company described the launch this way: “A new product category was born: energy drinks.”

Red Bull reported the following figures for 2025:

  • 13.969 billion cans sold
  • €12.196 billion in turnover
  • Products sold in 178 countries
  • 21,924 employees at the end of 2025

These figures describe the company, not Mark’s personal income. They help explain the scale of the business connected to his inherited wealth, but they do not establish what he personally receives in dividends or the current value of his stake. The Institute of Directors case study also describes Red Bull’s activities beyond beverages, including sport, media, events, teams and branded clothing.

What does the available record establish—and what does it not?

  • Established by the cited sources: Forbes’s dated net-worth estimate; secondary-source accounts that Mark inherited a 49% Red Bull stake; and Companies House’s control-band entry for the UK subsidiary.
  • Not established here: an exact current personal net worth, a full current Red Bull GmbH share register, or Mark’s personal earnings from the company.

For a privately held company, an inherited ownership stake can represent substantial wealth without revealing its precise sale value or how much cash its owner receives in any particular year. Forbes’s estimate and the registry’s control band answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable figures.
