How the UK chart changed that week
Nintendo Life reported that Mario Kart World moved up from second to first, while the previous week’s leader, Borderlands 4, slipped to second. Donkey Kong Bananza stayed in third place.
| Game | Position for week ending September 20, 2025 | Reported movement |
|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart World | No. 1 | Up from No. 2 the previous week |
| Borderlands 4 | No. 2 | Down from No. 1 the previous week |
| Donkey Kong Bananza | No. 3 | Remained at No. 3 |
| Minecraft | No. 4 | Movement not stated by Nintendo Life |
| Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | No. 5 | Movement not stated by Nintendo Life |
The reported top five positions come from Nintendo Life’s September 22, 2025 chart report. VGChartz separately reported that Mario Kart World retook first in the UK retail chart, citing GfK data for the same week: VGChartz.
Where Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter placed
Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter was the week’s new entry at No. 19. Nintendo Life reported that its chart sales were split 66% on PS5 and 34% on Switch. Those percentages describe the reported platform mix; they are not unit counts, and the reports do not give the game’s total sales.

What the rankings do—and do not—show
Nintendo Life identifies Mario Kart World as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title. Writer Jim Norman described its move as a title that “hit a speed boost” and “cruised past former champion Borderlands 4.” The speed-boost wording is a metaphor, not an explanation for the change in rank.
The reports establish chart positions and the stated week, but do not establish why either game’s position changed, provide unit sales, or supply a current ranking. Cloud Dosage also lists the UK GfK top-selling games for the week ending September 20, with the two headline entries at No. 1 and No. 19; it is another secondary report, not the underlying GfK dataset: Cloud Dosage.
