Krafton announced on August 12, 2024, that it would acquire Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property. The deal put Tango under the South Korean publisher’s ownership, but it did not transfer every franchise associated with the studio: contemporaneous reporting said The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo remained with Microsoft. The purchase price was not disclosed.
What did Krafton acquire?
Krafton’s August 12, 2024 announcement named Tango Gameworks and the rights to Hi-Fi Rush as part of the transaction. It said Xbox and ZeniMax would cooperate on the transition, and a reproduction of the announcement by Famitsu said the process would include the studio’s incorporation and staff transition.
The announcement also said the availability of Tango’s existing game catalog would not be affected. That is a statement about continued availability, not a full description of every legal right involved in the transaction.
Which Tango franchises were not part of the deal?
Although Hi-Fi Rush was included, the announcement did not say Krafton acquired all of Tango’s former franchises. Game World Observer reported that The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, and Ghostwire: Tokyo remained with Microsoft.

Why did Krafton buy the studio?
Krafton described the acquisition as a strategic investment in Japan and part of its global expansion. In its September 2024 investor presentation, the company called Tango its “First Game Studio Investment in Japan.” That is Krafton’s characterization of its own investment, rather than an independent industry statistic. The presentation is available as a Krafton investor presentation.
What did Krafton say about future games?
Krafton said it intended to maintain continuity at Tango, support continued development of the Hi-Fi Rush IP, and explore future projects. In its announcement, the company said it intended to work with Xbox and ZeniMax on a smooth transition so the team could continue developing the IP and explore new projects; PC Gamer reproduced that statement.
