Founded and led by former Bolt CEO Maju Kuruvilla, Spangle aims to help enterprise retailers personalize shopping experiences across digital channels. In September 2026, it announced a separate AI Discovery offering for retailers responding to shoppers using AI assistants.
What is Spangle?
Spangle sells enterprise software intended to use AI to personalize retail shopping journeys. Its initial pitch addressed the gap between targeted marketing and a generic shopping experience after someone clicks an ad or arrives from another traffic source. Madrona described its ProductGPT system as using product models and reinforcement learning to tailor those experiences dynamically. GeekWire reported the company’s launch on March 18, 2025.
Kuruvilla founded Spangle after serving as CEO of Bolt and holding earlier leadership roles at Amazon, according to the launch coverage. Madrona and Streamlined Ventures participated in the seed investment announced when Spangle came out of stealth.
How Spangle’s product has evolved
From paid traffic to more shopping channels
In a January 2026 account of its participation in Spangle’s Series A, Madrona said customers had expanded the product beyond paid traffic into email, onsite experiences, and AI-led discovery surfaces. It described ProductGPT as a commerce-specific reasoning engine that models a retailer’s products, context, and conversion behavior. Madrona’s January 8, 2026 post describes that product evolution.

AI Discovery for retail decisions involving AI assistants
On September 22, 2026, Spangle announced AI Discovery, an offering aimed at enterprise retailers navigating product decisions that shoppers make through AI assistants and shopping experiences. The company said the offering would become available beginning that fall and that retailers could start with an eight-week AI Discovery Sprint. These are Spangle’s announced timing and service details, not independently verified availability or results. Spangle’s announcement introduced the offering.
Funding, customers, and reported results
In its September 2026 announcement, Spangle said it had raised $21 million from investors including NewRoad Capital Partners, Madrona, DNX Ventures, and Streamlined Ventures. It named REVOLVE, Steve Madden, Alexander Wang, and WHP Global among its enterprise retailer customers. The funding total and customer list are company-reported.

Madrona’s March 19, 2025 investment post reported the early figures. The separate REVOLVE figures appear in Spangle’s September 2026 announcement. They should not be combined: they are different sets of claims from different dates and sources, and neither cited account independently validates the results.

What retailers should assess before adopting a tool like this
The product description points to practical questions for a retailer evaluating enterprise AI software. They are decision criteria, not established claims about Spangle’s controls or a comparison with competitors.
- Supported channels: Which discovery surfaces and customer channels can the system actually serve?
- Intent-to-action connection: How does it translate shopper intent into changes to the shopping experience?
- Governance: What controls let the retailer review, limit, or govern AI-driven actions?
- Measurement: Which outcome metrics will be compared with a defined baseline, and how will the retailer account for other changes affecting those metrics?
The available descriptions do not establish a neutral vendor ranking or provide enough detail to compare Spangle with alternatives.

Why the announcement matters
Spangle’s story reflects a shift in enterprise retail software: its initial focus was personalizing what shoppers see after arriving from marketing, while its later product announcements address additional channels and shopping journeys involving AI assistants. For retailers, the central question is not simply whether a platform uses AI, but whether its capabilities fit their customer journeys and produce measurable results under their own measurement standards.
