Koodo Followed Virgin Plus and Fido With $5 Increases to Some BYOD Plan Offers

A July 2026 report said Koodo raised four compared BYOD offers by $5 a month. The reported prices are historical offers, not proof of a bill increase for every customer or a current price list.

Yes. A July 7, 2026 report said Koodo’s compared bring-your-own-device (BYOD) offers were each $5 a month more than the corresponding offers in June. That was a snapshot of in-market offers—not confirmation that every Koodo customer’s bill went up or that those prices are still available on October 8, 2026.

Which Koodo offers were reported as $5 higher?

On July 7, 2026, iPhone in Canada reported the following Koodo BYOD in-market offer prices, each described as $5 above its corresponding offer the previous month:

Reported monthly price Included data and coverage Reported change
$45 20GB $5 more than the prior month
$50 60GB $5 more than the prior month
$55 60GB; Canada, U.S. and Mexico use $5 more than the prior month
$60 100GB $5 more than the prior month

These are reported offer prices, not a verified current price list. The report does not establish whether the offers remain available, or whether eligibility, coverage details, or other terms have since changed. See iPhone in Canada’s July 7 report.

How did the increases follow Virgin Plus and Fido?

The reported sequence was Virgin Plus, then Fido, then Koodo. MobileSyrup reported a $5 increase to some Virgin Plus in-market offers on July 3, 2026. Its report said Fido and Koodo still had offers matching Virgin Plus’s previous prices at that point; the Koodo report four days later described higher prices for its compared offers.

MobileSyrup listed Virgin Plus offers at $45 for 20GB, $50 for 60GB and $55 for 60GB with Canada-U.S.-Mexico usage. It said the first two were $5 higher than before, but listed the prior price of the third as $55 as well, so that report does not establish a $5 increase for that offer. These are dated offer comparisons, not a current plan comparison. Read MobileSyrup’s July 3 report.

Did every Koodo customer’s bill increase?

The reported Koodo changes concern compared BYOD offers. They do not show that all existing customers received a bill increase. To find out whether your own amount changed, compare your latest bill with the previous one and check your plan details, account notices and contract terms.

MobileSyrup’s report specifically said existing Virgin Plus customers would not be affected unless they changed plans. That statement is about Virgin Plus; it should not be treated as a universal rule for Koodo or Fido accounts.

Can a Canadian carrier raise your monthly price during a contract?

The answer depends on the contract and circumstances. Under the CRTC’s simplified Wireless Code, a provider must not change key terms of a postpaid wireless contract during its commitment period without the account holder’s or authorized user’s informed and express consent. The Code identifies the minimum monthly charge as a key term. It describes limited exceptions, including reducing the rate for a single service or increasing that service’s usage allowance. Changes to other terms during a commitment period generally require at least 30 calendar days’ notice. Review the CRTC’s simplified Wireless Code for the rules and details.

New protections described in CRTC Regulatory Policy 2026-43 took effect June 12, 2026. The protections include prohibiting changes to key contract terms, such as the minimum monthly price, during the commitment period.

A separate CRTC staff letter dated June 23, 2026 asked Rogers about a planned $5 monthly charge and whether it would apply during ongoing commitment periods. The letter explains the Commission’s view that the minimum monthly charge is a key contract term, but it is an inquiry to Rogers—not a finding that Koodo, Virgin Plus or Fido breached the Wireless Code. See the CRTC’s letter to Rogers.

What to check before switching plans

If you are comparing offers or considering a plan change, check the terms that determine your actual monthly cost and whether the offer meets your needs:

  • The monthly price and whether it is for BYOD or tied to device financing.
  • The data allowance and where the plan includes service, including any Canada-U.S.-Mexico coverage.
  • Eligibility requirements, offer duration and any conditions that could affect the price.
  • Your current contract’s commitment period and key terms before accepting a change.

The July reports establish a historical sequence of price changes to selected in-market offers. They do not identify which carrier has the best-value plan now; check each carrier’s current offer and terms before making a decision.
