The Wall Street Journal reported that Jeff Bezos spoke with President Donald Trump at least twice in June 2025, after Trump and Elon Musk’s public dispute. Reuters relayed that report but said it could not immediately verify it. The reported backdrop was competition between Bezos’s Blue Origin and Musk’s SpaceX for government space work; the conversations’ contents and Bezos’s private intentions have not been independently established.
What was reported about Bezos and Trump?
Reuters relayed the Wall Street Journal’s account that Bezos spoke with Trump at least twice in June 2025 while seeking more contracts for Blue Origin. Reuters explicitly cautioned that it could not immediately verify the report (Reuters, June 25, 2025). TechCrunch summarized the Journal report the next day, saying the two had recent conversations and noting Trump’s interest in a crewed lunar mission during his term (TechCrunch, June 26, 2025).
Those accounts describe reported contact and its business context; they do not establish what the two said privately, prove that Bezos’s aim was to influence a particular decision, or show that the conversations produced contracts or a policy change. The word “courting” is a characterization of the reported outreach, not a confirmed description by Bezos or Trump.
Why did the Trump–Musk dispute matter?
The reported conversations came after a highly public Trump–Musk clash in June 2025. The Associated Press described the dispute as centering on Musk’s criticism of Trump’s spending bill and Trump’s threat to terminate government subsidies and contracts for Musk’s companies (Associated Press, June 5, 2025).
#1 Best Overall
Because SpaceX and Blue Origin compete for government space work, the timing made the reported Bezos–Trump contact relevant to the companies’ commercial rivalry. That context does not establish that Trump’s dispute with Musk caused the conversations or that Bezos received an advantage.
What was the prior relationship between Bezos, Trump, and Musk?
The three men had met before the June 2025 feud. The Washington Post reported that Trump, Bezos, and Musk attended a dinner at Mar-a-Lago in December 2024, confirmed by a Trump transition spokesperson. It described Trump and Bezos’s relationship as evolving after earlier feuds (The Washington Post, December 19, 2024). That earlier meeting supplies context, but it does not establish the purpose or terms of later contact.

What did later reporting add?
In June 2026, WIRED reported further details attributed to Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, a book by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan. The account described a later Blue Origin-related request to Trump and said the requested change never came to pass (WIRED, June 2026). These are retrospective, book-based claims, distinct from the contemporaneous June 2025 reports about conversations.
WIRED also quoted White House spokesperson Kush Desai saying, “President Trump is committed to working with every American business and business leader to cement America’s innovative dominance, re-shore critical manufacturing, and accelerate economic growth.” That broad statement was a response to the book reporting; it did not confirm or deny the specific reported exchanges.

- Established in contemporaneous reporting: Trump and Musk had a public dispute in June 2025; the Associated Press reported Musk’s criticism of Trump’s spending bill and Trump’s threat concerning contracts and subsidies.
- Reported, not independently confirmed here: the Wall Street Journal’s account, relayed by Reuters and summarized by TechCrunch, that Bezos spoke with Trump at least twice that month.
- Commercial context, not proven motive: Blue Origin’s competition with SpaceX for government space work and Trump’s reported interest in a crewed lunar mission.
- Later book-based account: WIRED’s report of a subsequent Blue Origin-related request, which it said did not result in the requested change.
The available reporting therefore supports a carefully qualified account of contact amid a high-profile political and business dispute—not a conclusion that Bezos secured government work or that Trump changed policy in response.
