The Jharkhand High Court’s 2024 recruitment for 399 English Stenographer posts is closed: applications were accepted online from 1 March through 31 March 2024. Advertisement No. 02/Admn. Misc./2024 required a recognized university degree, English shorthand at 80 words per minute and computer typing at 40 words per minute. The High Court’s recruitment page now lists later skill-test, interview-shortlist and final-result notices, so this is an archive of the opportunity—not an open application notice.
What the 399 advertised posts covered
The High Court of Jharkhand advertised 399 posts in total: 397 English Stenographers for Jharkhand Civil Courts and two for the Judicial Academy Jharkhand in Ranchi. The notice said the number of vacancies could change if required.
The Civil Court vacancies were distributed by category as follows. The reservation counts are part of the 397 posts, not additional vacancies; the notice says vacancies and reservation were counted district-wise.
| Civil Court category | Posts |
|---|---|
| UR | 122 |
| BC-I | 27 |
| BC-II | 13 |
| SC | 60 |
| ST | 145 |
| EWS | 30 |
| Total | 397 |
The Judicial Academy posts were one UR and one ST. The notice also listed three women-reserved UR and four women-reserved ST posts among the Civil Court vacancies, plus 13 PwD vacancies for Civil Courts and none for the Judicial Academy. Consult the official advertisement for district-level vacancy and reservation details.

Selection process and test format
Selection began with stenography and typing tests. Candidates who qualified in both tests formed the pool from which interview candidates were selected; the notice allowed up to three times the vacancies in each category to be called. The skill test carried 90 marks and the personality test/interview carried 10. Typing was qualifying only: merit was based on the stenography test and personality-test/interview marks.
English shorthand and transcription
The scheme specified a five-minute English shorthand dictation at 80 words per minute, followed by 30 minutes to transcribe the passage on a computer.
Best Value
English typing
The separate typing test was 400 words in English at 40 words per minute, with a duration of 10 minutes. The examining authority or agency provided the computer, so candidates were not required by the notice to bring one.
Documents and application cautions
The online application required scanned photographs and signatures, proof of date of birth from matriculation records, graduation proof, and certificates for English typing and stenography speeds. Depending on the applicant, residential, caste, EWS, disability and employer no-objection certificates were also required. The notice set image and document size limits and specified JPG/JPEG format; use the advertisement itself for those technical specifications.
- Final submitted particulars could not be corrected, so applicants needed to verify entries before submission.
- Incomplete or illegible applications could be rejected.
- The notice advised candidates to retain a printout of the submitted application and the fee transaction reference.
What to check if you are following the recruitment
For an application submitted in 2024, use the High Court’s recruitment listing to locate the notices for subsequent stages and results. For any future stenographer recruitment, do not assume that the 2024 age cut-off, fee, pay, vacancy distribution or test rules will carry over; check the new advertisement and its dates before applying.
