What is Project Prometheus?
Project Prometheus, often referred to simply as Prometheus, is an AI startup working on tools intended to help engineers design and manufacture complex physical things. Its stated direction spans the path from design and prototyping toward production, rather than a single disclosed consumer application. TechCrunch’s June 11, 2026 report described the company’s focus and noted that product specifics had not been disclosed.
Bezos has called the ambition an “artificial general engineer.” In May 2026, he described the concept as “a very, very modern version” of computer-aided design, or CAD. That comparison helps explain the intended role: AI could assist with engineering work that today involves designing, testing, and refining products and manufacturing processes. It is a description of the goal, not evidence that Prometheus has delivered a working CAD system or proven manufacturing gains.
What is Jeff Bezos’s new AI startup building?
Prometheus’s tools are intended to support engineering workflows before full-scale production, including prototyping and optimizing machinery and processes. In an interview reported by Axios on June 11, 2026, Bezos described how a change to an existing jet engine can entail a long development cycle: “The cycle from dream, to manufacturing at rate, to having it out in the world can be very long.” He gave a 10% increase in thrust as an example that could become a decade-long program.

The point of the example is the problem Prometheus hopes to address: shorten the time and effort between an engineering idea and manufacturing at scale. Bezos also offered a hypothetical contrast in a Semafor interview published June 11, 2026, imagining a task that might take 100 engineers 10 years instead being done by 10 engineers in one year. Those figures illustrate an ambition; they are not measured Prometheus results or a forecast for a specific product.
The company had not announced specific tools or a rollout timeline in the June reporting. GeekWire reported that the co-CEOs declined to give a product timeline. Accordingly, it is not yet possible to assess the tools’ capabilities, supported industries, technical architecture, or actual performance.

Is Project Prometheus a robotics company?
Not on the evidence publicly described. In a May 2026 interview with GeekWire, Bezos pushed back on the robotics characterization: “It’s a little premature for me to talk about it, but we are not — we have nothing to do with robotics.” Reports describe AI for engineering and manufacturing, but do not establish that Prometheus has produced or announced robots.
AI tools that help design or improve physical products could be used in workflows involving machinery, but that does not make the company a robotics-product maker. The distinction matters because Prometheus’s public descriptions concern engineering support and manufacturing processes, while its actual product remains undisclosed.

Who leads Prometheus, and is it part of Amazon?
Amazon’s 2026 proxy statement says Bezos co-founded Project Prometheus in February 2025 and has been its co-CEO since November 2025. June 2026 coverage identifies Vik Bajaj as co-founder and co-CEO; reporting describes Bajaj as a former Google executive and a co-founder of Verily.
Prometheus is not described as an Amazon or Blue Origin subsidiary. Axios reported that the startup has no corporate ties to either company. Bezos discussed Blue Origin as a possible case study or customer context, which is different from ownership or affiliation.

How much has Prometheus raised, and how large is it?
Media reports published June 11, 2026 put the company’s Series B at $12 billion and its valuation at $41 billion. TechCrunch and Semafor also reported an earlier $6.2 billion initial round. The figures below are reported financing details, not audited financial disclosures in the cited coverage.

These large funding figures indicate that investors are backing the company’s effort to develop engineering AI; they do not establish that its tools are commercially available or that they have achieved the productivity improvements described by Bezos. What is still unknown?
