Jabil Plans $500 Million U.S. Manufacturing Expansion for Cloud and AI Data Centers

Jabil announced a planned investment of approximately $500 million over several years to expand U.S. manufacturing for cloud and AI data-center infrastructure. The company later identified Salisbury, North Carolina, as the site and set a mid-2026 operational target. That date was a plan announced in 2025; the available company and news reports do not confirm whether the facility has since begun operating.

Where Jabil is building the facility

Jabil named Salisbury, North Carolina, as the location in an October 13, 2025 announcement. The Associated Press identified the project as being in Rowan County. When Jabil first announced the investment on June 17, 2025, it said site selection was in its final stages and described the expansion as part of its southeastern U.S. footprint. What the planned investment covers

The approximately $500 million is Jabil’s announced, multi-year investment in expanded U.S. manufacturing capacity. The company said the plan includes new large-scale manufacturing capabilities, capital investment, and workforce development to serve cloud and AI data-center infrastructure customers. It is an announced investment plan, not a report that the full amount has already been spent. Jabil’s June 2025 announcement.

What the Salisbury site is intended to support

On Jabil’s June 17, 2025 earnings call, management described work involving the design and architecture of high-complexity AI racks, large-scale manufacturing, higher power requirements, and infrastructure fit-out for liquid cooling. Management said the site was expected to come online toward the end of Jabil’s fiscal 2026 and not to have a material financial impact until fiscal 2027. These were management expectations at the time, not confirmation of later production or financial results. Jabil’s Q3 2025 earnings-call transcript.

Jabil also introduced its J-422G server platform in October 2025, describing it as a sixth-generation Intel Xeon 2U dual-socket rackmount server supporting up to four 600W double-wide GPUs. The release connects the announcement to the Salisbury site, but does not establish that J-422G servers will be manufactured there. Jabil’s J-422G announcement.

How the investment, job and incentive figures differ

The reported figures describe different categories and should not be treated as interchangeable or as completed results. The available reports do not reconcile Jabil’s announced investment with the proposed capital-spending figure in state documents.

Figure What it represents Status and source
Approximately $500 million Jabil’s planned multi-year U.S. manufacturing investment Announced by Jabil in June 2025; a plan, not a confirmed amount already spent. Jabil.
1,181 jobs by the end of 2030 Proposed employment for the Rowan County project Reported by the Associated Press based on state documents; not a confirmed job count. AP.
$264 million Proposed capital spending for the project Reported by AP based on state documents; not a reported realized total. AP.
Up to $11.3 million over 12 years Potential cash payments to Jabil Reported by AP as conditional on meeting investment and job-creation thresholds; not a guaranteed payment. AP.

Why Jabil says it is expanding U.S. production

Jabil presented the investment as a way to build manufacturing capacity for AI and cloud infrastructure in the United States. Matt Crowley, Jabil executive vice president, Global Business Units, said the company viewed domestic production of AI hardware as important to the country’s economic priorities and national security. That security rationale is Crowley’s stated position, not an independently established conclusion about the project. Jabil’s announcement.

What is known about the timeline

Jabil’s June and October 2025 announcements targeted operations by mid-2026. On the June earnings call, management described a timing expectation toward the end of Jabil fiscal 2026. These are the company’s projected dates as stated in 2025; the available sources do not establish whether the Salisbury facility met either target or whether the schedule changed.
