Mantiqueira USA, a joint venture between JBS and the Pinto family, expanded into the U.S. egg market by acquiring Hickman’s Egg Ranch. JBS announced a binding agreement in November 2025, then described the acquisition as completed by the end of that year in a July 2026 update.
How Mantiqueira entered the U.S. egg market
On November 14, 2025, JBS N.V. announced that Mantiqueira USA Inc. had entered a binding agreement to acquire Hickman’s Egg Ranch. At the time, the company said it expected the transaction to close before year-end, subject to customary closing conditions. That announcement described an agreement, not a completed deal. A later JBS Brasil update dated July 3, 2026 referred to Hickman’s as an operation acquired by Mantiqueira USA at the end of 2025. It also said Mantiqueira USA completed the acquisition of Colorado Eggs through Hickman’s. This later company update establishes the reported completion status; the November notice alone did not.
Who owns and operates Mantiqueira USA?

What the acquisition means for the U.S. business
Hickman’s gave the joint venture an operating platform in the U.S. egg market. JBS described Hickman’s as based in the Mountain and West Coast regions and as one of the top 20 egg companies in the country. Those are characterizations in JBS’s transaction notice, not independently verified market-share findings.

JBS framed the deal as part of a longer-term expansion strategy. In its announcement, it said the acquisition marked “a significant milestone in Mantiqueira USA’s long-term strategy to build a strong and scalable presence in the United States egg market.” JBS USA CEO Wesley Batista Filho called it an expansion into “a new and complementary protein category.” These are company statements about strategic intent, not evidence of post-acquisition performance. How large is Mantiqueira’s U.S. operation?
JBS Brasil reported that Mantiqueira operated 6 million birds in the United States in its July 3, 2026 update. This is a company-reported operating bird count; it is not an egg-production figure. The same update said specialty eggs made up 32% of Mantiqueira Brazil’s sales, compared with 2% five years earlier. That figure applies to Brazil and should not be read as the U.S. product mix. The update did not provide a comparable U.S. specialty-egg percentage. JBS Brasil’s July 2026 update
