The new card can make sense if you cruise with Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, or Silversea and will use rewards for those trips. It is less compelling for everyday spending if you want flexible points or cash back, because its rewards are limited to cruise discounts and onboard credit. Royal ONE Plus has a $99 annual fee and is worth considering only if its extra rewards and perks justify that cost for you.
What happens to the Celebrity Cruises Visa?
Celebrity Cruises says its existing Visa is being phased out and replaced with the Royal ONE Visa Signature. The issuer began sending replacement cards in June 2026 to accounts approved on or before December 31, 2025; accounts approved on or after January 1, 2026 are scheduled to receive them later in 2026. The old account stays active until the new card is activated, and cardholders cannot keep using the Celebrity-branded card after conversion.

Celebrity says unused points transfer at the same value, and rewards already redeemed remain valid for upcoming sailings. Most cardholders retain their account number, though some may need to update autopay or other recurring payments. Existing customers with an annual-fee Celebrity card first convert to Royal ONE and can request an upgrade to Royal ONE Plus after receiving it. The issuer says conversion will not affect fees, APR, promotional rates, credit line, or credit score; that assurance applies to conversion of existing accounts, not to new applications. See Celebrity Cruises’ transition details.

Where Royal ONE points can—and cannot—be used
Both cards let you redeem points for cruise discounts or onboard credit with Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Silversea. Redemptions start at 5,000 points, points do not expire, and the current FAQ says there is no points cap. You must redeem at least three days before sailing. Points cannot be used for taxes, fees, or gratuities.
That narrow redemption menu is the main trade-off. If you do not expect to take a cruise with one of these lines, or would rather use rewards for flights, hotels, or cash-equivalent purchases, the points may be less useful than a flexible travel card’s rewards. The official materials do not establish a universal dollar value per point, so it is not possible to calculate a dependable cash-back rate from the earn rates alone.

When the no-fee card may be worth it
The base Royal ONE has no annual fee, so there is no yearly fee to recover. It may be a reasonable fit if you regularly buy eligible cruise-group travel and are comfortable using rewards only within that group. Its 3 points per dollar on eligible cruise purchases and 2 points per dollar on eligible grocery, gas, and EV charging purchases can be useful to that traveler, while other purchases earn 1 point per dollar.
The $100 anniversary discount is an extra benefit only if you naturally spend at least $10,000 on purchases during the applicable anniversary year and can use a cruise discount. It is not a reason to add purchases you would not otherwise make, and it should not be treated as a guaranteed annual cash return. If your spending falls short of the threshold, do not count the discount in your estimate of the card’s value.

Is Royal ONE Plus worth its $99 annual fee?
Plus earns one additional point per dollar on eligible cruise-group purchases compared with the no-fee card, and adds a wider set of 2-point categories. To decide whether the upgrade works for you, compare the value of those additional points and the perks you would otherwise pay for with the $99 fee. The same cruise-only redemption limits apply, so the extra earn is useful only if you can use the points.
Plus’s $200 anniversary discount requires $20,000 in purchases in the prior anniversary year. Count it only if that spending is already part of your budget and the discount fits a cruise you plan to take. The Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit is up to $120 every four years, so do not treat the full amount as annual value. Priority boarding and luggage benefits may matter to frequent cruisers, but availability is limited by terminal or sailing.

How to compare it with another travel card
Use your own spending and redemption plans rather than comparing headline earn rates in isolation. A general-purpose travel card may be a better fit if you value rewards that can be used for flights, hotels, or other travel. The right comparison is the value you can realistically redeem, not a points figure without a known dollar value.
- List your likely annual eligible cruise, grocery, gas, EV charging, airline, hotel, and dining purchases.
- Estimate the rewards each card would earn on those purchases, using only categories that actually qualify.
- Value Royal ONE rewards only for cruise discounts or onboard credit you expect to use; do not assume a fixed cash value per point.
- Include anniversary discounts only if you can meet the threshold through planned purchases, without spending extra to qualify.
- For Plus, subtract the $99 annual fee and include only benefits you would otherwise use or pay for.
- Compare the result with flexible rewards from alternatives, and pay each card’s statement balance in full. Rewards are rarely worth interest charges.
Bank of America says final rates and fees depend on credit history and are provided in the applicant’s agreement. A current public welcome bonus was not established in the official materials available here, so check the live application disclosure for any offer, APR, fees, and eligibility before applying.

Do Royal ONE points affect Captain’s Club status?
No. Royal ONE Rewards are separate from Celebrity’s Captain’s Club loyalty program; card points do not count toward Captain’s Club status or add to its points. Boarding benefits also have practical limits: priority boarding is offered only at select terminals, the process differs by card, cruise line, and terminal, and the benefit extends to travelers in the cardholder’s stateroom—not linked staterooms.
