The headline figure referred to Jalan-Kalrock Consortium’s (JKC) reported completion of its total ₹350 crore equity commitment—about $42.1 million—not a single $42 million payment made on September 29, 2023. The consortium said it had completed an additional ₹100 crore infusion that day. The milestone advanced the court-approved resolution process, but it did not show that Jet Airways had resumed flights.
What does the $42 million mean for Jet Airways?
It was the approximate dollar equivalent of ₹350 crore (₹3.50 billion), the total equity commitment JKC said it had fulfilled under Jet Airways’ court-approved resolution plan. Moneycontrol reported the completion on September 29, 2023, as approximately $42.1 million; Reuters reported the total as $42.14 million. These are rounded conversions of the same rupee commitment, not separate sums. Moneycontrol and Reuters via ET LegalWorld reported the milestone.
The wording matters: this was a funding commitment connected to the insolvency resolution and proposed transfer of control. It was not proof of an operating airline, a completed relaunch, or ticketed services.
Was ₹350 crore a new payment or the total commitment?
It was the total commitment JKC said it had completed. Moneycontrol’s September 29 report described an additional ₹100 crore infusion and said that this brought the consortium’s stated equity contribution to ₹350 crore. The ₹100 crore was the latest infusion in the report; it was not another way of saying that the entire ₹350 crore was paid in one new transaction that day.

Who paid the ₹350 crore?
Jalan-Kalrock Consortium, the bidder under the court-approved resolution plan, said it had completed the equity commitment. Contemporary reports attributed the completion claim to JKC or a consortium statement. The cited coverage does not identify a verified individual speaker, so the claim is best attributed to the consortium rather than to a named executive.
Why was the payment described as progress?
The payment was part of a contested insolvency process, not a routine airline investment announcement. In August 2023, ch-aviation reported that the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) had extended JKC’s payment deadline through September 30, against continuing disagreements with creditors over funding and transfer of ownership. That context helps explain why meeting the commitment was presented as a step toward taking control. Did Jet Airways restart after the money was injected?
The 2023 funding reports do not establish that flights restarted. Reuters reported that a previously expected first-quarter 2022 restart had not happened and that JKC then aimed to re-establish operations in 2024. That was a target reported in 2023, not confirmation that the restart occurred.
Jet Airways had stopped operating in April 2019 after financial distress, Reuters reported. A completed funding commitment could support the resolution process, but an airline also needs the legal and operational steps required to resume service. The cited reports do not document those steps as completed or establish a later launch.

What was still needed before Jet Airways could fly again?
The reports establish a financial milestone and an unresolved process, not a complete checklist of regulatory or operational conditions for a restart. In practical terms, the distinction is between financing and authority or readiness to operate:
- Resolution and control: the payment related to JKC’s court-approved resolution plan and proposed assumption of control; the 2023 coverage described disputes with creditors around funding and ownership transfer.
- Operational restart: the consortium’s 2024 target was a plan, not evidence that the airline had obtained every necessary approval, prepared aircraft and staff, or begun scheduled service. The cited reports do not verify those outcomes.
Accordingly, neither the ₹350 crore commitment nor the 2023 target should be treated as evidence that Jet Airways is currently flying. The available reports are historical and do not establish the airline’s legal or operational status as of October 8, 2026. A present-day claim about ownership, liquidation, or flights would require current court, company, or regulator records or reliable current reporting.
