Adidas says it settled its legal dispute with Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) in July 2024, and both sides withdrew their claims. The company has not published the settlement agreement or an official settlement amount. Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden later said publicly that no money was going either way, a description attributed to his October 2024 remarks rather than to disclosed contract terms.
What the settlement resolved
Adidas’ 2025 annual report says the dispute arising from the end of the Yeezy partnership was settled in July 2024 and that the parties withdrew their respective claims. Adidas had begun arbitration in 2022, seeking, among other things, damages; Ye and entities he controlled filed counterclaims. The public record cited by Adidas confirms the settlement and withdrawal, but does not set out the agreement’s detailed terms or a dollar amount.
Gulden’s public account came later. In an October 29, 2024 report, The Guardian quoted him saying there were no more open issues and “no … money going either way,” and that “No one owes anything to anybody any more.” Those remarks are the source for the no-payment characterization; they are not a published settlement agreement.
How the legal settlement differed from the Yeezy breakup
The legal settlement did not restore the commercial partnership. Adidas announced on October 25, 2022 that it was ending its partnership with Ye with immediate effect, ending Yeezy-branded product production and stopping payments to Ye and his companies. The company said its decision followed Ye’s comments and actions, adding that “adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech.” Its announcement also estimated a short-term negative impact on 2022 net income of up to €250 million; that was an estimate about the termination, not a settlement figure.

Key dates and legal context
- October 25, 2022: Adidas announced the partnership termination, the end of Yeezy-branded production and the cessation of payments. Adidas’ announcement gives its stated rationale and expected financial impact.
- 2022: Adidas initiated arbitration against Ye and entities he controlled, seeking, among other things, damages. Ye’s side filed counterclaims.
- May 26, 2023: A Southern District of New York order addressed Adidas’ attempt to attach accounts allegedly holding up to $75 million in Adidas funds while arbitration was pending. The court vacated the attachment order because Adidas had not timely moved to confirm it. This was a ruling about a provisional remedy, not a decision on the merits of the arbitration or a finding that $75 million was owed.
- July 2024: Adidas says the dispute was settled and the respective claims withdrawn.
- October 29, 2024: Gulden publicly described the outcome as leaving no open issues and no money going either way.
Keep the reported financial figures in context
Several figures associated with the dispute refer to different things; none establishes the settlement value.

- Sole material: Rubber
- Sport type: Athletic
- Release Date: October 9, 2021
- Up to €250 million: Adidas’ October 2022 estimate of the possible short-term negative impact on 2022 net income from ending the partnership—not money paid in the settlement.
- Around €650 million: Adidas reported revenue from selling remaining Yeezy products during the 2024 financial year. The company reported no Yeezy inventory at December 31, 2024. These are product-sales and inventory figures, not settlement terms.
- Up to $75 million: The amount Adidas said accounts might contain in the 2023 attachment proceeding. It was a figure in a procedural dispute, not a judgment or settlement amount.
Because Adidas reported no Yeezy inventory at the end of 2024, that report does not support the idea that Adidas was then holding unsold Yeezy stock. It does not establish what footwear might be available through independent sellers or resale markets today.

The Ye-related arbitration was separate from a securities class action brought by holders of Adidas ADRs, who alleged misleading statements about risks from the Ye partnership and Adidas’ diversity commitments. Adidas’ 2025 annual report says the district-court dismissal was affirmed by the Ninth Circuit in December 2025 and that the plaintiff may still petition the Supreme Court. That shareholder case was not the arbitration settled in July 2024.
