The finding came ahead of a Powerball draw advertised at $100 million; it describes past winning tickets, not a current jackpot or a better chance of winning.
What Lotterywest reported in August 2023
Lotterywest said 53 WA ticket holders had won Division One prizes so far in 2023, with prizes totalling $166 million. More than 70 per cent of those winning tickets were Slikpiks, according to its 2 August 2023 media release.
The release also broke down several Slikpik game counts: an 18-game Slikpik accounted for seven of the Division One winners, while 12-game and 50-game Slikpiks each accounted for six. These figures refer to winners in the period covered by the release; they are not a comparison of how likely different ticket choices are to win.
What a Slikpik is—and what the statistic does not show
Lotterywest described a Slikpik as a way to play using randomly selected numbers. The 2023 figures show that Slikpiks featured on a large share of the Division One winning tickets Lotterywest reported for WA that year. They do not establish that a randomly generated selection improves an individual entry’s odds compared with choosing numbers yourself. The release provides no controlled comparison of those approaches.

The $100 million Powerball draw was a 2023 event
The $100 million figure referred to the upcoming Thursday Powerball draw discussed in Lotterywest’s August 2023 release. It is historical context, not a current jackpot announcement. The release said entries for that specific draw were available in store, online and through the Lotterywest app before 6pm on draw day; that deadline should not be treated as a current purchase rule.
Lotterywest’s syndicate advice
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney recommended that players get friends, family or colleagues together to organise a syndicate, whether they choose their own numbers or play a Slikpik. He said a syndicate could share the ticket cost, include more games and make the experience more enjoyable. Those comments were advice from Lotterywest, not evidence that syndicate play or a particular number-selection method produces better returns.

How to read later claims about popular ticket types
A later Lotterywest Powerball jackpot announcement named Powerpik 7, Slikpik 12 and Slikpik 18 as popular ticket types. That is a different claim in a different context from the 2023 statistic. A meaningful comparison needs to account for the date, game and ticket population, as well as whether the claim concerns winning tickets or sales.
