Yes. Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed in September 2025 that Fenway Sports Group would pay the remaining value of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family. Later, Portugal’s RTP reported that the payment had been made to Jota’s widow and three children. The sources do not establish the amount or when or how it was paid.
What Liverpool said about the payment
On 26 September 2025, The Guardian reported that Slot had confirmed Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s ownership group, would pay the final two years of Jota’s contract to his family. Slot said: “Maybe people think it’s normal, but it is not in football.” The Guardian’s report described the deal as due to run until 2027.
RTP later reported that Slot confirmed Liverpool had paid the full remaining contract value to Jota’s widow and three children. RTP’s account does not give a payment date or further financial details.
What is known about the contract value
The Guardian reported that Jota had two years left on his contract and that his weekly wage was understood to be around £140,000. That wage is a reported estimate, not an official contract disclosure or a confirmed calculation of what the family received. The available reports do not state the final amount, whether it was paid in a lump sum or installments, or the legal basis for the payment.

Jota’s death and the club’s support for his family
Liverpool announced on 3 July 2025 that Jota and his brother André Silva had died in a road traffic accident in Spain. In its statement, the club said: “We will continue to provide them with our full support.” Liverpool’s statement expressed condolences and support but did not describe the contract payment. The Associated Press also reported the brothers’ deaths and that Jota was survived by his wife and three children: AP’s report.
